I got my new to me maple leaf sorted last night and am ready for its maiden flight and my first with a DLG with ailerons. Yea!!

I took my old RE DLG to the field yesterday but when i got there i saw the rudder control rod broken (hanger rash) so thats what im going to fix tonight.

My brand new firefly should be here any day and i can hardly wait the throw it!!

I think it's open to anyone! So get up in the air and score too!

What I did was I started my traditional style stopwatch, put it in my pocket, did the 8 flights timing them with my transmitter stopwatch and mentally remembered each flight time (1-4 was 92, 5 was 91, and 6-8 was 92) and then pulled the stopwatch from my pocket to stop it and get the score.

Probably not the way to go if your objective is to try to do 740 but I figure since this is just a practice/community experience/have some fun over the winter exercise.

If you have a device that runs Android apps (phone or MP3 player) then get Adrian's "F3KMaster" app from the Google Play store. It's da bomb for self timing! Strap the device to your arm and it gyroscopically senses launch/land, has all the logic to run/time any single task or a whole contest, for one pilot or many. It talks to you just like your real timer would; announcing tasks, target times, remaining windows, current flight times, countdowns (or ups) to critical moments, start/stop buzzers, etc. It keeps logs of all your flights so you can go back later and see your exact times. It has all the standard F3K tasks pre-programmed in, plus an editor for creating your own custom tasks. Or just use it like a plain stopwatch. It takes a little practice to learn how to use it, and configure it to your liking. But once you get the hang of it it's the most valuable practice tool you could possibly have. Definitely the next best thing to flying in real competition. And the perfect way to self-time for a postal contest like this. Plus it is a lot of fun.

Before the Droid and F3KM I was just using the timer on my transmitter, which would automatically start when the launch preset switch was released. Just have to remember to look at it when you land, and remember or write down the times. Quick turnarounds were very difficult to self-time.

I don't know if it just me,but there is something wrong with guys from SoCal (or anywhere else where they don't get below freezing) flying in a winter postal contest

You guys should organize a "110 degrees in the shade" postal contest for the summer months
