E motor choice

I have the 2500 KV Hacker A20-6xl motor in an Ava Pro Flapped 4 and a 3.9 meter Maxa. On a 4 cell TP 1300'pack and a 16x10 prop....both models hit 200 meters in less than 17 seconds.....motor, battery pack, speed controller all run very cool and efficient. You can run this motor on 3 cell Lipo....just go up in prop diameter

For all you Hacker lovers, I have a Hacker A20 6XL 10 pole 2500kv motor coupled to a Maxxon 4.4:1 gb that only has about 5 runs on it. $95 shipped to your door.

Two offers pending so consider the motor sold. Walt

Must one buy the motor and gearbox separately, or does someone sell the motor with the gear box installed?

John,
You can get with or without gearbox. For our purposes (smallish diameter to fit, enough kick to turn a big prop) the gearbox makes sense. https://www.aero-model.com/8_64/Moto...20-Series.html

This is a cheaper gearbox option:

It seems to survive up to 1000W:

I just completed the first test flights on my new Maxa system (should be applicable to Supra too) and have found a very nice combination.

I am using a Neu 1107-1.5Y with a P32 6.7:1 gearbox. Battery is a TP 4S 850 65C. Prop (right now) is an Aeronaut 14x9 mounted on a Vladimir hub. Weight of motor, gearbox and battery is 9.1 ounces. The plane (servos in tail) balances without any tailweight. Plane launched to 200 meters into about 10 mph wind 150 meters out in 17 seconds. 2300 vertical fpm. Input wattage was about 650. I like this motor because I can go to a 3S 1300 battery and a larger prop and probably get a little more efficiency without adding any weight. And based on the measured temperature rise in the motor, I suspect that I could go to 800 or more watts by going with a 4S 1300. Personally, though, the performance that I am getting with the current is exactly what I was seeking -- the ability to get to altitude into 15+ mph winds and 300 or so meters to windward. I will likely throttle back for launching into lighter winds. This is a very sweet setup.

It is the second iteration of my original setup which used a Neu 1105-2.5Y with a Maxon 4.4:1 gearbox and a TP 3S 850 65C Battery. Weight of motor, gearbox and battery was 6.8 ounces. This setup took about 25 seconds to get to 200 meters in no wind and 200 meters out. It did not give me any headroom when the wind came up. This setup ran at about 450 watts. The motor was fine with this, but the stock Maxon gearbox was a little beyond its stated limit.

Now I suspect that if someone was a real stickler for weight and wanted to get to 650 watts or so that perhaps the Neu 1105-4.5D with the P32 6.7:1 gearbox and a TP 4S-850 or TP 3S-1300, properly propped, would behave like my 1107 and would weigh only about 7.7 ounces. This, of course, pushes the motor farther beyond its stated limit -- but my tests on the 1105 at 600 watts showed about a 75 degree rise for a 30 second motor run. It should be just fine.

At any rate, the 1107 combo is the very best I have found since I started this. I have run the Neu 1110 in a Supra and, at least for me, it had more power than I could use effectively in ALES competition. The current combo is sweet and it does not really press any of its components too hard.

Happy Landings,

Don

Don,

Nice to hear you've got a good setup.

I've got an 1107 2y w/4.4/1 Maxon in it now. Running an 850 4s and probably can prop up a bit from the 14x7 that's on there now. I'm also going to test the new 70c TP 4s in 850 and 1300. No test flights yet. See attached photo. That's outside my door about 10 minutes ago. At this
rate I might get it set up by the Polecat.

I've got a 1110/3900 w/6.7 p29 with an 18x10 in a new Pulsar Pro and fully expect that it will go up quite nicely.

I have a similiar set up in a heavy 3m E Strega @ 2700g.---running a Neu 1107 2y with the Tower 4.3 GB

Motor is a pre 2008 3300kv which I had sitting around unused.

Currently running a 13 x 7 on 1800 mah 4s she runs quite fast once she gets going so I would like a bit more thrust ---undecided whether to go :-

4s 13 x10 58amps 728watts 4187g thrust or
3s 14 .5 X 13 59amps 584 watts 3900 g thrust

I am leaning towards the latter as I thought it might easier on the motor ?

My other Glider is my all round Sports/Thermal Machine :-

Xplorer 4m ST with Neu 1506 1.5 y 6.7gb on 4s with 17 x 10 prop

Regards Keith

I ended up with a 15/8 carbon 850 70c 4S TP for my e-Supra SC (60 oz AUW) and consistently get to 200 meters in 15 seconds +/-. No problem.

My 4m Xplorer is not an ST. AUW around 89 oz. Same motor/gb but on 3s 2250 TP 70c with an 18.5x12 . Gets up in around 20 seconds. My windy plane.

Good luck.

I just tried an Aeronaut 14 x8 with my neu 1107 2y /4.3 Gb and 2200 mah 4s Turnigy Nanotech A spec ---Wattmeter shows 78amps and over 1000watts and e calc shows 76 amps and 1024 watts (at full charge)

What are your figures on that set up Regards Keith
