Unwritten rules for name?

This brings up an interesting point. I'm wondering if there is such a thing as an unwritten rule or guideline about the adoption of names already in use. Or more relevantly, if a name can be "claimed" or sort of "registered" prior to building the aircraft.
I have a favourite name (in mind) for a plane that I might not build for at least a year! But I Don't want anyone to use it in the meantime!
Probably not much chance of anyone else thinking of it though!
And no, I'm not going to say what it is.

Sorry Jordan, this is a bit off topic! I can't add to the above suggestions.

Jim.

Jim, seems to me that our small world is pretty respecting and on the other side understanding of plane names. I would respect the names that are in use but if it's a pretty different you're of plane and i really wanted it I'd probably write the owner of the name/plane designer/etc and simply ask.

In your case maybe put a post in your blog or somewhere to document your intent to avoid probs later.

Jordan, I'm still thinking

I read some books about a guy that used to fly his homebuilt plane into the bush. He talked about installing a knotted piece of rope in the centre of his seat to give his sphincter something to grab on to during hairy landings.

Think I'm gonna go with Chaos.........

I reckon it's different enough to avoid any confusion.

That's a good idea Jim! It sort of lays claim to the name pending building and using it.

Jordan,

Good name for a great plane!

I put the other wing in the vac bag this morning.

Gotta say I'm real impressed with these little aquarium pumps. I was originally going to do the Jarel pump-in-a-can thing but decided to pull it apart for a look first. I found a nice round inlet, jammed in a piece of rubber tube, then drilled a hole in the case for the tubing to stick through. Worked great! And best of all it cost me $5.79 including shipping from China
