Question
Speed 400 pylon racer wing composite construction- Complete!

so i've got a little speed 400 pylon racer that i've got a power system for that should take it pretty close to 150-160mph with the correct prop.

The wing specs are:

3 3/4" root chord
2 3/4" tip chord
32" span

The wing cores are Dow Blue-foam that get a layer of 2"x24" Uni-carbon (probably 3/4-1oz) on the top and bottom, and then a 4" wide strip of glass along the wing core joint. This is all sheeted in 1/32" balsa.

I plan to vacuum bag this all to the cores and then use painted mylars to bag the cores with the paint scheme.

My question is, since this was originally designed for a brushed speed 400 motor (maybe 100-120mph), Would it be beneficial to put some lightweight spread tow Carbon fabric for the outer surface finish instead of 3/4oz glass?

I'm expecting the weight to be around 16-20oz hopefully closer to 16 than 20 though.

thanks,
Thomas

Add some rowing in a groove on top and bottom to act as a spar... A 25g/dm + 80g/dm at 45 degree is plenty for layup. No need for wood.

Well...

I just followed the directions included with the kit to build the thing..BUT I vacuum bagged the uni-carbon, glass wing core joiner and 1/32" balsa sheet to the wing. Then I got some mylar and some spread tow 1k carbon from a guy in here and waxed, painted and vacuum bagged the carbon to the wing and stab. This was my first try every doing this, and I think for any "simple" wings for now on, i'm going to be doing this more often, its AWESOME!
