Here's a couple of pictures of the propulsion end of several typical Novi's.The one on the left is local boat, no cage around wheel. Second has cage and zinks on rudder. Third has cage and hole in rudder so that shaft can be pulled without removing rudder. All three boats have a 4 bladed wheel which is typical. The cage is used to prevent the pot lines from getting caught in the wheel. The Warlock may or may not have had a cage but most likely would have had a 4 or 5 bladed wheel.

Thank you Charlie, those pic are great, I noticed the the rudder and prop is more foward than what I've have seen and the way I have mine mounted, hope it dosent effect the performance. thank agian Charlie

Yes most Novi's carry the shaft and rudder well forward of the transom, it does give better turning than further aft. Going from pot to pot you need the manuverability. On a model it won't make that much difference, my novi model does have the shaft and rudder well under (forward). The hull is 35'' long and the wheel is 6'' in from the stern.

Yes, that is more forward than I would have guessed - I, like Pops, have mine
more rearward. I am planning either a 3 blade, or maybe a 4 - I have both on
hand and will be conducting sea-trials when I have her that far along in the
build....This is a great thread going !

Hi David631, good luck with your build, do you have pic's to shear? would like to see your vessel.

Orca

Ok the orca is not a ship but a small fishing boat, but we thought we throw it in for fun,there were two boats used in the movie a replica of the orca was built for the sinking scene at the end of the film this boat Orca II was left on a beach near the small fishing village Menemsha,in Massachusetts, United States along with other bits and pieces left after filming, much of the Boat disappeared over the years due to souvenir hunters The remains were broken up in 2005,the other orca is Thought to be at the universal studios lot.The first victim of the shark in jaws 2 was actually an Orca (killer whale) it is thought this may have been added as a Hollywood joke as quint's boat was called Orca. The Orca fishing boat was originally called The Warlock.
