Now I'm glad I got pulled off my build while moving, gives me a chance to come back and see how it's supposed to be done. I think your servo mounting technique is brilliant Arngeir, elegant and solid. You don't see the need for the balsa reinforcement on the elevator horn Andy referred to?

Nice treatment on the flaps Jamez, thanks for the pics.

There is a balsablock already inside the control surfaces, so as long as you install the horns in the correct place (where JTM has put the balsa) you will have no problems, I have done ailerons and the rudder so far and on all three I found balsa inside when drilling the slot for the fiberglass horn. On the elevator this block covers the inner 35mm according to the info given earlier in the thread by Andy at JTM, and the linkage will end something like 20mm from the inside edge so that should land it almost in the middle of the balsablock.

Thanks! That tells me I can extend the reinforcement out to where I placed the control horn and get by with that location. I misunderstood Andy in that I thought he meant we had to add something he omitted. If I had it to do over again I would copy your approach entirely.

Jamez thanks for sharing, I though it seemed simple but why would you not do at the location of the flap servo?

I am more wondering about if he has room for landing gear, I could not mount a servo in that position as it would hit the actuator on my gear.

That's what I was thinking when I was looking at the flaps.....there wasn't enough meat on the spar to make an internal linkage at the stock flap location.

Got the plug for my inlet adapter made up yesterday, and finished off with 3 layers of wax last night, then it was ready for a coat of PVA first thing today. Layup is two layers of 163g/m2, should be strong enough I think. Front end will go outside the inlet ducts, while the back end is inserted into the front of the Ramtec shroud which has a step for the duct to sit in.

Thanks, I hope it fits well, my plan is to apply a thin bead of silicone on either end when doing final assembly to seal it up and to help with resonance, the Ramtec fan has rubber isolated mounts so it makes sense to add some silicone to the duct as well, that's what was normal practise back in the GDF days at least.

I thought about that and will see how strong it is when I pop it off the plug tomorrow, if it feels a bit flexible a wrap or two with carbon tow is quick and easy to add the the rear end.
