FMS Sport Aerobatic/3D Model Thread-Yak54 Sbach342 Extra300

Check out the beautiful new FMS offerings introduced at the 2012 Shanghai International Model Exhibition held last week. Another model (Extra300) and more details to follow as I receive them. If the FMS Pitts is any indication, these will be excellent flyers as well. I heard these will be in production in October, so would probably ship in time for Christmas.

Yak 54

Sbach 342

This picture shows relative size of the Yak54 compared to the 1100mm class PT17 below it. My guess is these new models are in the 1400 mm wingspan class.

Gotta bump this thread. I ordered my FMS Yak from MotionRC 2 days ago. I can't wait to get this bad boy hovering! Tom, and Mark over at Motion, have a nice line up of new planes. The 1400mm BF 109f looks amazing too!

Just showed up on my doorstep tonight. Everything looks very nice. I'm digging the big, pin hinged control surfaces. Another cool thing is the prop has individual blades screwed to the hub, so if you break one, you can just replace that one blade. And it came with a spare blade. This appears to be more and more common on fms planes. The paint finish is top notch, and everything fits very snug. This puppy is also pretty darn big! I'm going to have to start taking the wings off my planes to fit in my truck.

BTW, anyone with a Roc Hobby Critical Mass, who is looking to add prop....this big old 3 blade fits. I haven't checked amp draw yet, probably around 55a on 4s would be my guess.

I got a chance to fly the yak once so far. It is definitely smooth and stable, with very quick roll rates. Power seemed to be a little less than I was expecting. I thought it would climb out of a hover quicker than it did. I might possibly have to mess with the esc timing, or run a higher discharge 4s. The other thing that bothered me was the hub and spinner I ordered as a spare is so far out of balance, it can't be used. So it's a crap shoot there.

Ultimately, a couple little bugs to work out, and I think I'm really going to have fun with this one!

I have the yak dialed in now. It needed a little weight in the tail to balance, using a 2500mah 4s. The other thing to do that helps out tremendously, is the 1mm zip tie mod under the blades. I went from drawing 50amps, to over 60, and a lot more punch. Plenty to get out of trouble, and unlimited vertical.

Heads-up for Canadian flyers. I've got a bunch of these aerobatic planes, as well as B and D P51s and the gorgeous ROC Hobby Critical Mass arriving in late April. My website should be up by then.

Vancouver, BC area pilots can come pick them up to save on shipping.

Thanks
