Mini-HowTo
#1 Model Airplane Building Clinic >> SIG Astro-Hog <<

This is my thread that I am going to use as my build thread for my SIG Astro-Hog. This build thread is just one small part of the build clinic that we are hosting here RCG. You can learn more about the build clinic here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1704076

Here is the airplane that I will be building: http://store.laser-design-services.c...roducts_id=176

I picked this kit because the Astro-Hog is my favorite plane of all time. I was going to build the original size plane and convert it to electric power, but I found this one while searching for something else online and thought this would be the perfect size for an electric powered airplane.

So if you are new to building, or just like the 'Hog, sit back, relax and I hope we all can learn something as I build this balsa kit in the next month or so.

Thanks for following along and if you have any questions or comments feel free to ask.

Frank

Your title threw me. I thought you'd found out that Sig Manufacturing was actually producing the Astro Hog kit again. My flying buddy has been trying to get a new one for at least three years now.

I see the model you are doing the build on is not the Sig version of the Astro Hog.

Good luck with the build and hope folks follow along with you.

Shouldn't these be in the Builder's Workshop forum instead of the general Electric Talk forum? I tried to PM or email you but evidently you've never set this up in your profile.

PM me your thoughts and I'll delete this post so it doesn't clutter up the thread.

That's odd, I get PM and emails from RCG members all the time. Try again and if doesn't work I will submit a help ticket.

Thanks. But truth be told, it really doesn't matter if anyone follws me on my build. I'm building this kit to help spark interest for other people to build. It would be hard to get other people to build a plane if myself and others were not willing to build something along with them. That it what my goal is. We learn better by doing rather than by just watching it.

Here is what I see on my profile page. See attached.

And there is also that little envelope thingy under my profile name.

Do you see the same thing?

That's weird. Maybe someone else can have a look and post back. It may be some setting issue. Can you see the envelope thing under my username and location?

Once we here back, we'll know something for sure.

Looks like we are learning more than just how to build a balsa plane.

I'm currently building a full sized Sig Kit from the early 80's that I'm considering going electric with. Have the wings built up and am currently sanding...and sanding...and sanding.

Looking forward to your progress.

You'll find a glow to electric conversion of the Sig Astro Hog in this article.

http://www.theampeer.org/ampeer/ampa...10.htm#COMPARE

Scroll down a bit to find it.

Every time we go flying together, usually, once or twice a week, Rich is flying this one. Great flier.

Frank, when I look at your profile, I don't see the option to send you a private message, but I do have the little envelope icon in the forum that allows me to send you a PM.

Are they not available? They're on the web page and there's no indication of back order status. Maybe it'll let you add all your information before it tells you they're not available but I don't know why they'd do that. Anyway....
