So it is I am mounting the antique J-250's using Zip-Ties, and a cool Zip-Tie Gun Harbor Freight sells for under $5.00 USD. It was worth it to use the J-250's just so I could own a new tool.

Pretty are they not!

So I thought since these motors can really whip up the RPM's, and create quite the flex and torque. Best to make the motor mounts tough as nails so they don't ever rip out. Keeping it light is my goal, so some manilla file folder was acquired for its card stock properties, and used to dispurse the loads into the foam over a wider area. Balsa shims were insereted in my cut and sanded slots to fine tune the spreader bar position Top/bottom.

Much smaller pieces would be used the same way on Setup #1 for the carbon stock attachments.

So now my nacelles are done, the antique and old fashoned way. Setup #2 is more work, but I REALLY want to run J-250's on this (if you didn't know by now). Setup #1 with the outrunners would be much quicker and easier. I never take the easy way if it's worth the extra work, or I'm having a senior moment.

OK, so I need to get back to building, and that motivated me to do something almost forbidden around here. cleaned my bench (only one of them!). It's so clean my little fried here passed out, LOL! I promise this will never happen again.

I will leave you with some eye candy. No not that kind! I figured while I had the 30mm Cannon round out, I would pose this photo opp for you all.

A 30mm US cannon round (for the A-10), next to a German WWII 20mm cannon round, and with it you can compare size to a 45 ACP round, a 7.62x39 NATO round, and pick your favorite Hand Gernade type. Note the bullet is head is much longer than a hand gernade. And that doesn't include the part still seated in the case.

Don't mess with the US. Bud! No wonder the A-10 is the most feared US ground attack plane we have!

Hello, Nice project! I love to see anything related to A10's as I work with them everyday (as a specialist).

However I can tell you that is NOT an A-10 30mm round. (although I do not doubt it is a 30mm round.)

I can not post pictures of the live depleted uranium round that I may, or may not admit to having....

HOWEVER, here is this spent round, in which I can post.

The actual bullet sticks out about 3.5" more, not to mention the .5" inside the case itself.

I believe your case is just a bit shorter, as the A10 has to pack a little bit more of a punch than your usual 30mm cannon round. The bullet on the Gau-8 round is also a continuing (elliptical) curve, it doesn't just stop straight like your round does. The only other round we often Fire is the incendiary, in which it does square off, but it is still more elliptical until it squares off.

That is cool and interesting. I think my spec. info is a bit damaged, but I hope I can read all the markings and possibly google it? My cousin was an Air Force pilot in the mid-late 1970's, flew A-7's first, then early into the F-16 program was assigned to F-16's. He was killed in Nevada doing Dog Fight manevers, mid-air crash in they F-16. I thought the gattling gun on the A-7 (pod mounted) was the same gun, but probably not. I will research and try to determne the origin of this round. Then I will update. Anyone else that may have info....please. Time sure goes by in a hurry.

Ahhh, yes I believe the A7 used the Gau12, which was a 25mm gun, either that or the Gau 13 which uses the hydrive, and many parts that the Gau8 uses (it also uses a 30mm round.) However the rounds are slightly different.

I am sorry to here about your cousin. I am currently working on finishing my aerospace engineer bachelors so I can commission in the near future.

The 16 is a great plane, although a PITA to work on... Especially that damn hydrazine! What a Joke! the 16 has an indicator on it, if you see the indicator change then there is a Hydrazine leak.... The problem is If you are close enough to see the damn indicator you are already in contact with Hydrazine! that stuff can kill you in as little as one breath.... it smells like ammonia too.... I briefly came in contact with it once. It is supposed to give you an instant 35% disability after retirement. (we'll see how that turns out......)

AS for the A-10, it is a plane that only its pilot (or mechanic) can love.... Its ugly, always broken, there are some not-so-well thought out engineering mistakes on it... But at the same time it is a jet you gotta love... Nothing exciting at full power engines runs (not like a 16 or 15), but it is really funny to stand next to a running A10, with all 3 engines running, and when they shut off APU, all of a sudden the jet gets quite... (the two mains are still running)

Good to see another hog maintainer on here! I worked on the A10 as an engine guy for the first 8 years of my career...5 years at DM and 3 at Spangdahlem.

Been following this thread with great interest, can't wait for the maiden.

Wrong thread, LOL , You guys are brutal! Wifey's B-day, but lots of progress yesterday (in small bites!). Looks like we will be sort of like 'Buffalo Wild Wings' here, have wings any way you like 'em! # different wing choices for all the variety of builders we have here. UC, Standard, or Kfm. That should help encourage another builder or two, I hope.

Iam still watching from the weed seats ,my girlfriend is at mackinaw island with her 7 sisters spending the money i save from using cheap free stuff for my hobby. lol Its been a great vaction for me this weekend, now if it would only stop raining so i can get out and fly for a day . LOL Joe! 8 sisters (includng GF #1), sounds like a Movie Plot! But yes, if we didn't save money using cheap stuff in the hobby, we couldn't be in the hobby, if we want a woman too! The only bad thing for you, when you screw up, 7 other sisters come to GF #1's rescue................ you are doomed. At least mine only has 2 sisters, and her brothers are weak........... (8 total there too, BTW). Gotta be when you finaly get rid of Her (insert name here guys) and then it rains, wind, or chores, yuk!

BTW, I'm sneaking some wing work in while the babes are asleep on a lazy Sunday.
