Toyota and Duke collaborate on Prius plug-in test
Duke Energy Corp. and Toyota are joining up with non-profit Energy Systems Network in Indiana to produce a standard language for plug-in automobiles and charging stops to talk to the power grid. Answering a list of questions
The collaboration is meant to check conversation standards that the Society of Automotive Engineers developed. Concerns will be resolved such as: How will the power grid be impacted by the interaction? How will hybrids be impacted by charges from power businesses?
Five workers involved
In order to do the test, five employees at Duke will be given Priuses that they will be anticipated to drive regularly. The employees will get free gateway conversation systems and home charging stations with the vehicles. They will be anticipated to drive in Indianapolis with the vehicles.

Indiana Commerce Secretary Daniel Hasler explained that over 5,000 engineers a year graduate in the state. It is second only to Michigan for vehicle manufacturing also since there are plants in the state for Subaru, General Motors, Toyota and Honda.
Future of cars
Toyota and Duke will get the most out of the effort, though all electric and hybrids will be able to benefit from the data.
Toyota Technical Center vice president Edward Mantey explained:
Smart charging through two-way communication with utilities will not only be a benefit to the customers but is crucial for the promotion of transportation electrification.
