Well the holiday season has slowed me down on projects and today I had a bit of time to work on the E-Oculus I am going with a geared (aprox) 600 brushless from Cermark with a gearing of 4.3 to 1 this is it http://www.cermark.com/products/Cerm...-Gear-box.html

I started testing with a 15x8 prop and it would pull 75 amps and give all kinds of thrust, that was too many amps for where I wanted to be so I got a 13x8 prop and it brought the amps down to 40 and it brought the RPMs up by 7000 so it will be a rocket and with a 1300 mah 3s lipo I can get 3, 30 second runs out of the battery so I should be set.

Clarence. On my Oculus I am making about 460W at the battery, which is very adequate. You are probably on the low end of 'contest' power, but you might try a little more prop, like a 14X9.5 if you can find one. I am using a 14X9.5 CAM prop. on 3s, but I have an MVVS motor (4.6/840). This is soon to be changed out for a Hacker A20 Geared with a 18X10, which may be too much, but we shall see! I have other models which could use the A20 if it proves to be too much. I like ALES in that it is not a power race, and if I can reach 500', which is what we use here, in 20 seconds I am happy with that.

I received my kit w/Fuse #41 last week. Started laying out the center section last night. After cracking a wing rib, I decided to slide all the ribs on the center spar at one time, space them along the spar by eyeball then lay the spar with ribs down on the plans. It only required some minor adjustment to get everything lined up. Worked for me.

I really like the building tabs on the ribs.Everything is perfectly aligned.

Well I got to work on My E-Oculus for a bit and I got quite a bit done, I built and installed the motor mount and I also got to due another prop motor test. I was very happy with the test results, I ran a 14 x 9 prop and it only draws 43 amps so it stays in the range I am going for and the power it is putting to the prop is excellent. I am looking forward to the completion so I can take it out and give it a real flight test.

Finally got the Oculus.....Looking over the plans and some comments about the build, I came across one about the sanding of the ribs C5,C6,M1,M2 (at the polyhedral joint). Would one get a better fit if the ribs were angled 5* at each end instead of sanding only the tip? It seems
(to me) that the joint would look better, and the carbon would fit better also. Just a thought.
More questions to come.........
It is a nice kit, Merrill did a great job.

Found out why M2 was taped into the lazer cut sheet........it's already beveled!!!!!

It come as a glider kit with a Glider fuse and a E-fuse in the same box.

It would be ready, but with the lack of funds I won't be able to make it to the bent wing and the fall fest, so I am saving up for the fall because 1,600 miles take a bit of fuel.

E-Oculus #51 has landed in Montana. Can't wait to get started putting the kit together. I spent an hour going through the kit tonight, great quality and very cool engineering.
