Composite :: Epoxy Resin or Polyester Resin

Hi all.

In this thread, I want to get some information from you modelers and UAS designers.

For beginning ...

In your opinion ...
Which one is better for a simple drone with these specifications:

Fuselage length: 1200 mm
Wingspan: 2400 mm
Characteristic distance: 250 mm
Payloads: Just common UAV tools like OSD, AP, FPV and ... .

Just a simple drone, but with less MTOW ...

Epoxy Resin or Polyester Resin ?

If you can obtain good quality Epoxy resin systems, then use them. Polyester is giving way to Vinylester, but they are still inferior to Epoxy systems for aviation use currently.

The decision can depend on the capabilities of your shop and glass transition (Tg) requirements of your resin. The main advantage of a vinyl ester resin is that the resin can reach a Tg of 180 to 200*F with a room temperature cure. It is quite easy to get certain epoxy resins to reach that same Tg but you will have to heat cure the layup in some kind of oven. If the Tg isn't that important then you can use a room temp cured epoxy and have good results as it while be tougher.

Epoxy Resin or Polyester Resin ?
How simple a drone???
Buy a ready made foamy.

How many do you want to make?

What is MTOW?

Where do you want to use the epoxy or polyester?

I don't fully understand the question.

Cheers Jeff

1. I have my own design!

2. Just one for preliminary flight tests

3. MTOW=Wto=Weight=Maximum Take Off Weight
I want a composite with less weight.

4. At home! I have a place just for my r/c projects at my home.
