SVSS Monthly ALES Contest – September 1st in Davis, CA

It is hard to believe that our September ALES contest will be our 7th event of the year. If you haven't made it out yet, you are missing a lot of fun and excitement. The next event will be on Saturday, September 1st and we will again fly all planes in a single class. This will be our last warm-up before the 2-Day ALES event later in the month.

Our Pilots’ Meeting will be at 9:30 and first flights at 10am. Entry fee is $10 and AMA membership is required. Kevin suggested BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches so pack an appetite along with your plane.

For directions, visit our website at http://www.svss.org/

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Don't let today's blustery winds fool you, tomorrow's weather for our next ALES contest looks like a high of 81 degrees and winds from 3-6 mph. You couldn't ask for better flying weather.

Remember, Pilots' meeting at 9:30 and first flight at 10am.

Well, we started with partially cloudy skies in the morning and then what looked like a front moved in with overcast skies, and then the clouds dissipated and we finished the day with mostly blue skies. Throughout the day winds stayed light and on a number of launches the debate was which direction the wind was coming from so we could launch upwind. The answer came back most of the time that the winds were so light that it didn't matter.

Competing with Labor Day Weekend brought a small crowd, but it really was one of the most pleasant days of flying you could hope for. Lift wasn't alway plentiful, but it was always out there if you could find it. There was some haze, probably from the recent fires, making visibility a bit more challenging, but at the end of the day all of the planes made it home safely.

I'm glad you guys had a great time! What a relaxing, fun, competitive format this ALES is! I also think it's a better spectator sport since it's MOM flying and you can really tell who is in the money during the landings! It makes great conversation in the pits.
