Per the meeting today:
As of October 1, 2012 Rancho San Antonio Park will start enforcing the new rules.

1) Gas Powered Models Prohibited
2) Models must take off and land in Designated Areas only
3) Pilots required to stay within Designated Area
4) Models must stay within designated fly area, and maintain at least
100’ vertical and horizontal clearance from parking lots, trails,
structures and visitors.
5) Maximum Model weight – 5 lbs. Maximum Model Speed – 50 mph
6) Maximum model noise – 80dB @ 25’
7) Front Propeller Models only. No pusher, Razors, Zagis, or Ducted Fans
8) Maximum of 5 model flying at a time. Note: This includes gliders.
9) No Helicopters, Rockets, or Video Piloting
10) Current AMA Membership required to fly.

The new rules will be reevaluated at some time in the future. Since they do not fly in the sane level of air space unless landing or taking off, the park service has been asked to look at allowing at least two gliders and the five power planes at one time. If it is allowed in the future, it will happen after the reevaluation in the future. The park will have radar guns and dB measuring equipment available for the rangers.

A one foot fence will be constructed around the designated runway and the pilots will also be in a designated fenced off area with a gate as well. Don't over shoot the runway!

Wow, pretty strict...although I can see the reasons. Public park with some very loud and fast electrics, with the general public being often far more stupid then the RC folks (walking with kids right across the runway). Many people will be upset, and end up flying elsewhere where there is a better chance of conflict.

I support most of the changes except for max of 5 in the air. I fly gliders AND powered, and the idea of three or four guys in the air for hours soaring means only one or two actually visible power planes going round all alone.

Glow/gas weren't allowed anyway, no change there.
No rockets, weren't allowed before either.

No helis, what's driving that rule?

My composite glider is just under the 5 lbs limit. I wouldn't fly it there anyway, no launcher.

Rule 4, if strictly followed noticeable reduces the flying area.

Number of aircraft, no EDFs, and noise restrictions are my biggest complaints and then requiring an AMA at a non sanctioned field is just nonsense. I fly a Super Cub, a Mustang, and a Vampire. Only the Cub is now legal to fly there. I think it might be finally time to join the SCCMAS.

Its been a few weeks since I've been out there flying. Anyone been out yet this month? Are there signs informing pilots of the new rules? Are they being enforced?

Unfortunately, the park system is a world of its own.

The "rules mentality" is: Everything is banned unless specifically allowed. One guy got kicked out because he had an rc car and said the signs didn't prohibit it. Thing is, the signs only state what is actually allowed. I believe the signs also say no fun allowed.

I almost drove by the other day to check it out but couldn't? Anyone? Anyone?

Too bad they don't charge a fee. Baylands tried to control the model airplanes but they realized it means bankruptcy for them.

How bout we get our troops together and conquer the place?

lol that I don't doubt. Eventually we'll have to get some t-shirts made that say "RC Flying is Not a Crime"

Needless to say. I didn't see anyone flying the entire time I was there. Went on quite a long hike.
