More Engine Progress

Despite a full weekend of great football games, I did get a little work done on a Version 3 engine.

Decided to use solder to fashion the exhaust tubes.

I like your Oberursel designations V1,V2 & 3

I worked on my version a little too. I'm using a hub of 1/32 ply with CF rod spokes and blue constuction foam cylinders.

Before the Skins game flew the Micro RC D.VII, DR-I, E.III and my Black 6 Nieuport 11 great flying today.

Then after the game getting some ROF practice on the D.VIII. I shot down 2 French SPADs before they got me (Waves of 2), then got shot down in the E.III

You're right, I need to clarify that this an Oberursel UR.2 engine as shown here - the V1, V2, and V3 refer to my sequential learning-builds. I think V3 is the end of my production line.

Thanks for the heads up.

What material are you planning on using for the exhaust tubes?

Are you going to do a model? If so, which one?

Pete,

Pete, I scaled the ROF skin pieces for your fuselage, so here they are in the form of a paper mock-up. I'll print the tissue this afternoon.

Gee's that looks good...Great work Gene...

Paul The Canadian & maybe Cdr. Jin will be over to fly after work if winds stay calm.

I'm hoping to get video of the Black 6 NP-11 & the E.III and if we have time the D.VII

Have you figured the wing yet? My plan is to have ailerons, I think you're planning the same right?

Thanks Gene

Yes, mine will have ailerons, and that's been a small hang up - trying to decide whether to have a scale wing or undercambered. That fat wing was a prominent feature of the airplane, so I'd like to do that, but then, the undercambered wing will be simpler and lighter. What's your choice?

At the rate I'm going, it'll be a while before mine gets airborne, so I'll get some parts to you this week so you can get on with it. Pics below show your main fuselage parts (tissue mounted to Depron, cut out, and sides beveled and colored).

Ooh La La... I want to do this build following your bevel & glue instructions.

As for the wing, do a full size paper mock up using the scaled up E-Cards plan with the wing ribs and wing spar. The problem with fold over wings is not so much the LE or TE in this case but the wing tip area those could be made with blue foam painted white and then tissue covered.

A flat bottom air foil woul be real nice 1mm Depron 2mm ribs and spar???

We could hide the servo. Send me the full size wing parts and I'll have a go.

Since the 1:1 D.VIII wing is covered with wood panels, it will be an easy build - no rib tapes to do!!!!

Gene I noticed that you earlier mentioned silver paper.

Have you ever tried printing just lines on silver tissue? I found some of that stuff at Michael's craft store a couple years ago. It isn't bright silver, but still metallic. They also had gold, and I made tissue decals out of that for the numbers on my Brown B-2 racer. They came out nicely.

After I get done with the Nieuport, I have been thinking about doing a Spirit of St Louis using your and Pete's methods and using the silver tissue and printing on it.

I was just wondering if that would work for paper engines like the one you are doing now?

Good stuff, I'll need to check local Hallmark store as I though they had some silver paper might be wrong.

Gene, I'll cast two 1:24 German pilots for us too. I'm also going to do more details on our MG's. Can you do more of your coping pads for the cockpit?

Lots of work for you my friend....

Thanks,

Pete

Yes, I can do more coaming as shown here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=93

I'll stick some into your package later this week.

I do have some silver tissue, so will give that a try. May have to reduce the engine print to grayscale first.

I'm sure it won't - tissue is tissue, just like "motor oil is motor oil". Seriously though, the silver tissue I have is not metallic.

Thanks for the heads up, however.
