A little over 3 minutes on take 2 before one of the motor mounts failed and the unit crashed down. Thankfully I should be able to work off the wood and re-epoxy a new arm tonight. Needless to say I'm not amused.

The problem with wood, as I'm finding is that it's also very hard to get good, straight squares, so it has a rotational issue that it hard to pin down.

Grrrr

It has a glue seal already to be pressed together. Just peel off the cover and it sticks great. Actually I bought this on in OSH hardware.

Third time's a charm?

Didn't like the lack of stiffness and straightness in the wooden frame so I fabricated a replacement frame for the electronics and did a transplant last night. One boom is wood in order to keep the weight down as one alu boom was more than stiff to prevent any edge to edge torsion all by itself. Whole thing is held together by 4 bolts and lots of zip ties.

This is my list of parts I think I'll need except I'll be going with a 30 or 40 amp esc. I have my own Tx and Rx and battery. Did I forget anything?

Tom, the links are broken.

Some things off the top of my head looking at my quad.

Does the motor come with a good mount for props, maybe get a "prop saver" for your shaft size.
Wires. Do you have appropriate gauge wire and heat shrink
Servo extensions. You have to plug something from the Rx to the KK2
Screws, bolts, standoffs, locknuts? Cheap from HK and the small metric stuff can be a bear to find in the US.
You probably have bullets, get more than you need.
Battery plug pairs. As always, get spares.

Of course I presume you already have batteries or can source them from a US vendor.

EDIT: Also, props?

I'm planning on making my frame using carbon fiber tube, plexiglass and aluminum. I'll try re-inserting the links for the motor and KK2. Board and other bits I'll be using.

Mmm- personally I would not use plexiglass (acrylic plastic) as it is very brittle and will not take kindly to any impact - If you want a clear plastic go for polycarbonate as it is much tougher. Otherwise use a reinforced plastic (grp etc) to get strength with lower weight.

Again only my observation, but the 1400Kv motor you list might not be ideal - you will have to run pretty small props to keep the amps down with that sort of rpm/volt. On a lightweight quad I'll go up to 1200Kv, but for most applications I tend to use 750 - 900Kv motors.

- Just my thoughts, but don't let my comments stop you experimenting ........
