We have been flying the Zip for a few weeks and I think it is really cool. This is coming from a hard core 3D flyer. All you have to do is walk out in a field, throw the zip and magically people appear around you. When we get the Zip out it flies until we leave. Why? Because everyone feels the urge to walk over and give it a try. In the hands of someone that can "see" thermals you can keep this thing in the air for a while. I'm just as happy to fling it, fly it and catch it. I realize this sounds like a sappy commercial but it is just a really relaxing plane.

I don't think I understand that question.

IS THE TOW HOOK SHOWED IN THE KIT
The Zip does come with a tow hook and the instructions show the position. Ours has it installed but we haven't used it yet. We like flinging it!

Since there is no motor we have never run out of juice even after flying for half the day.
We don't use a hi start. We just fling it.

BILLY i caught my first thermal yesterday, about thirty seaguls
were in it about 100 ft high, that made it easy to spot.
i did have the leading edge break twice one from the rubber bands and one from bad catch, easy to repair and i taped a small carbon rod along the leading edge with scotch tape, and was ok to day

I have yet to catch a thermal but I watched one of the guys a the field do it with the Zip and he kept it in the air until we asked him to land for some pictures. That got me pretty excited about owning one.

Any pointers in assembly, launch, etc? (eg, how to attach canopy, could I use AAA 270mAh Nicads for RX)

Does the boom go under the midship balsa beam, pictured below?

PETER you got it wright on the boom, the specks call out for 110 ma batts but i used some 300s and i put the severos in the front of the next bay side ways with one 1/4 inch higher in the front so the arms can over lap, and in the picture of your boom i made a small grove on both outside edges for the puch rods. the rx is a gws and it is in the front bay and the batt is as front as it will go and the plane is at the ballance point, i think the plastic cover is taped on,it didnt fit well so i taped it on and then taped a rubber glove over it and made one from fiber glass that over lapes the sides a little. the computer i use is my grand sons and its been down a couple days
