Not just under... right behind the screw thread. I use a separate board camera.

Not a great shot... but this will give you idea of how i shoot.

hmmm that sucks! anyway your solution is ok. Anyway hows your test on no stabilization? I wonder why IS on these cameras get confused not unlike the almight BOSS...

if its not that freaking expensive (sony cx760) Ill get it in a wink of an eye.

Yup. External pots on both the roll and tilt servo. Camera gimbal stabilization by HoverflyPro FC. The camera can pan 30-deg each way and all the way down. The pan, tilt and shutter are controlled by the camera operator. I can flick two switches on the frame and control the tilt and shutter while flying from the one Tx (framing the shot by video downlink using eyetop mono-lcd glasses).
I am a comms tech / radio tech full-time. I would hate to pay for someone else to sort this stuff! I know I have spent over 1000 hours on this in the last 18 months... I can see why complete setups cost $15-20K+

The RX100 stills stabilization is stunning. I did an aircraft museum trip a week ago and shot indoor 1/30th Auto ISO all day and never missed a shot... without high iso grain.

The video is stunningly clear without stab on.
There are 3 settings. Off, Active and On. With stab set to On, the camera introduces (I think) a little jitter. I video'd the fountain video (earlier in the thread) set to On. When yout watch it closely - there is jitter. There isn't on my non-stab'd videos.
The wind has been terrible and I haven'y done any octo/quad video flying for a while.

RX100 Stabilization Active (1 min 21 sec)

have any of you guys seen this to my eye there is minimal if no jello.

@efliernz so can you recommend the rx100 for MR video capture

how do you fly it without stab on? you just minimize vibration from the frame?

You need to be paranoid over vibes in the frame no matter what camera you are using! I still haven't done a lot of testing due to the weather.
I needed a new camera as I wore the LX3 out. I am very happy with the camera as a light-weight camera - my multis are on the lighter side of machinery. The heavier cameras (GH2 upwards) handle vibes really well because they are heavy and have a resistance to inertia. The RX100 is susceptible to vibes (I think) because it is light. Your frame /motors/gimbals need to be tight - no floppy wires or parts as they all create vibes.
The 28mm (76 degrees) lens shows up any movement far more than a Gopro on 100-120 deg. Don't compare the two!

No, boss stabilization system is only available in Sony camcorder line. It's a very good camcorder and the stabilization system is the best out there for its class.

I've had the RX100 for a couple of months now. It is an amazing cam. And compared to my Powershot S100 it is pretty forgiving regarding vibrations.

Some test clips from my summer at the southern coast of Norway. Simple quad with DJI Naza. Non stabilised camera mount, no stabilisation in post:

Sony RX100 coastline flights (2 min 19 sec)

But now I really need the best possible way to trigger this cam for stills while on board the quad. Really.... a servo is STILL the only way?

Video looks good. Did you have stabilization enabled in the camera?

As for the trigger... it's the only way without breaking the camera apart (as far as I can tell). I wish there was a remote so much too...

I'm happy to take someone elses RX100 apart if they want me to to see if I can wire it out!

Better late than never... how I shoot / trigger the RX100:

The shot from the rear (yeah... the out-of-focus one) shows a bolt and a spring. This is how I hit the review button as it's hidden behind the bracket!

The board-cam is very close to the 28mm of the RX100.

Not perfect but functional!
