My latest toy

Attended the Midwest Uke Festival with my new toy. Decided at my age it was time to learn something musical. Had a great time with some interesting people. Just like modelers, they're an eclectic group that travel to events like this, and just like modelers, one is not enough.

Do you play as well as you fly?

I am guessing you do.

Hi Orrin,

Unfortunately no, I had never touched any musical instrument before. I just decided I needed to expand my interests and the Uke is a relatively simple instrument. I'm in a basic learning curve at the moment, but it's been a fun experience so far.

JR is getting closer. FWIW, their web site seems to be down. I emailed Terry and he wasn't aware that it's down so he said he'd check on it. I was worried when I couldn't find it, probably my favorite event.

Unfortunately I've found that like other hobbies, it's totally addicting. I bought a relatively inexpensive Soprano Uke and had Ukulele Mike from Hawaiian Musice Supply set it up. Now, of course, I'm wanting another. Trying to decide between a Concert and Tenor.

im playing a tenor now but i have a 1940 banjolele and its sounds great! I'm actually picking up a beautiful burled myrtle back and sides with a redwood top concert from ohana music. I think Ohana's are the best bang for the buck. Really nice ukes for a cheap price. My tenor from Kala music it was a good entry level uke. check out the ukelele underground forums alot of good info.

Hi Azarr,
I too found the JR website down. I didn't email Terry about it.

Terry was at the Bob Evans event in Ohio.

Next weekend is our flying clubs late summer air show. It is also the weekend of the Coho Festival here in Honor, MI. All kinds of events go on. I usually don't go to the festival, but will be at the airport early to set up my trailer and get a couple of flights in before the formal event begins.

I tried playing a guitar at one point, never could do it. I took piano lessons early in my life, but now, I may remember some of what I learned. My loudness discrimination problem never helped much, what I thought was soft was loud and loud was way overboard. I love music.

I can hardly wait for the JR. It is the people I have met and the whole experience that seem to make it special.
