insulate them while in the plane? or would that overheat them?

Depends on how hot the batteries get while in the air naturally. If the batteries aren't being pushed at all, (i.e. only 10-15C drawing out of a 25C battery) then they shouldn't get hot even with the wrap on, and would preform better. If they heat up on their own, then no need.

so like if i use full throttle a lot then i wouldnt need to wrap them?

yes. i use full throttle alot though and over the summer one of my batteries came down at 125 degrees F!

No... not necessarily. I fly nearly full-WOT on my pylon racer and the battery doesn't get warm at all, because it's a 45C battery and I'm only drawing 20C from it. Batteries mostly warm up when you're pushing them to (and beyond) their limits, which I don't ever do since it reduces their life.

It really just depends on how hot they get when they aren't wrapped.
