Been involved with robotics for 8 years. That's what got me into the hobby. Programmed and worked with quadcopters for 3 years as UAVs before it occurred to me that it might be fun to fly one directly. I've competed in FIRST & Botball - I'm on the youth advisory council for the latter.

You doing any competition programs?

There is a group at our school and one of the girls in the scout troop is into it. I haven't done any of it though. I'd rather be in the back shed with the planes and the smell of glow fuel all over me. The local hobby shop is having a grand opening next weekend. Doesn't have much plane stuff and the little foam isle he has are well over priced but the club is running the sausage sizzle, and I'm taking the laptop in with the sim so we can hopefully get some more people out to the club.

IDK... you have to control the robot to pick up bags and put them in a certain spot

Ah... radio controlled. The programs I work with do your entire task autonomously by programming the robot. They're the fun ones. It's completely hands-off from the start of the game.

Have you ever been involved in the First Robotics Competition? I went to see the Dos Pueblos robot the other day and it was pretty cool

Yeah, once. It was pretty fun but not as fun as Botball... the Botball tournament is all about micro-robotics and programming - doing really complex tasks on a 8'x8' board with ping pong balls and stuff.

This is our KIPR Open robot from last year... KIPR Open is a sub-tournament of Botball.

Urist 1 (2 min 10 sec)

Except all the gear is for cars, trains or nothing. And he wants $150 for a little 9 eagles foamy. The best hobby shop is about 40 minutes away but he has stuff you wouldn't even be able to find on the Internet and he is just a great bloke. It's not that far away any way. It is about an hours drive to school each morning any way so distance doesn't bother me much
