Awesome! Because I think that my lead-free solder stuff actually comes out a little bit less shiny than the normal 60/40 or 40/60 or whatever stuff... that one's for a 20A ESC that I found, I also have a 25A one, but I think that there's something wrong with it Just need to find a cheap FPV-capable plane to use a 20A on!

Looks like the positive lead is cold.
On a good joint, the solder "ramps" up to the wire. A bad solder joint is where the solder is in a "ball" and doesnt have a smooth slope on the flat part. Deans are hard to solder!

Hmmm... well I'll see if it is choppy or cuts in and out of power when I put a motor on it.

Alright, here's what I'm going to do...

I have:

2 x 11g Servos (Solar A107's)
1 x 20A HK ESC
2 x 1100-1300 mAH 3S Li-Po batteries
1 x Radio 72 mHZ TX/RX (needs battery)

And I just ordered these from NitroPlanes:

Flying wing kit:

http://www.nitroplanes.com/02a-019-p...white-kit.html

and a motor:

http://www.nitroplanes.com/75m14-opt...12-1360kv.html

Going to try a 6x4 prop first on that motor... will see how it does. Probably will have to use a 6x5 or larger, though.

First, when I gave too much collective, the tail would give out. So, I extended the tail boom a whole inch and a half.
Now when I give it too much collective, the motor dies and i have to dead stick it in

If you know what you're doing and learn to flip the heli smoothly and slowly hovering inverted is fine, as well as flying around upside-down too this is with the extended tail boom, but completely stock electronics. (skip to around 30 seconds in the video)

Wow! Nice! One question, is the tail boom easy to extend and two: what is tail blowout? It doesnt fly inverted like that on phoenix

Tail blowout is when you flip the heli too fast and the tail can't keep up with the movement, so it blows to one side really quickly... most of the time causing a crash.

Yeah - an extended tail boom you can get plug-n-play from Horizon Hobby for the same price as a regular one very simple, just pop it in!

This is what happens when the motor "bogs out" - see the end of the vid when it crashes... that was at FULL negative pitch, too

If you get one... make sure you have an instant reaction to hit the throttle cut button, it does save it! I did this at the end of the video when it bogged out, no damage!

I would use some heat shrink tubing over the joints. Makes them stronger and insulates from shorting. Leaving them exposed is never a good idea.

I put some on each lead, then a large piece over both of them and the connector's grip.

Yeah I do that too... but I needed to show you guys the solder joints and not the heat shrink! LOL...

Electrical tape works great also.

ok. so why does the motor bog out? cause that's what looks like is happening to me all the time in Phoenix when I try to fly inverted. it just descends slowly. why does that happen? am I doing something wrong? keep in mind i have no real life collective pitch experience, so I probably am.

Well, first of all you have to be in idle up mode if you're flying on the simulator... otherwise every time it'll just descend and crash.

It bogs out in real life because the motor is brushed and not really crazy powerful enough to fly quick 3D maneuvers.

Yeah there should be a switch on the DX6i somewhere... can't remember where though.
