Eye candy

Hi There,
I have managed to paint the fuselage a vibrant candy apple violet
and done some more covering, here are the photos of progress so far.
The painting went well and the metalic base coat adds a depth and sheen that the camera battles to capture.
This glider will sparkle and stand out in the sky.
The paint was base coat silver sparkle over the white
Then a coat of 2k clear to which I added a purple pearl and a purple/violet 2k
only a small amount of colour so the clear is translucent.
3 x seperate coats deepened the violet to the correct shade.
pictures attached.
regards
Mike

Beautiful! Love the color. I cant wait to see it in the air. Like you said, it's going to look like a jewel in the sky.

As usual, fantastic work.

Cheers

Alrighty then,
I tried some more photos in better light to show off the pearl colours in the finish.
Maybe get a chance to finish the structures, covering and start final fitting the motor and the servo's, as well as hinging etc.
Should be able to test run the motor during this comming week , I will fit a few props and see what the Watt meter tells me.
regards
Mike

Looking really good, certainly a stand out colour. I'm looking forward to the flight testing as I'm looking to build a similar sized all wood e-glider over the winter.

Beautiful! Even with the bit of loss in pictures there's just nothing else like a well executed paint job. I don't have the temperament for it myself. I've just learned to live with drips and finger prints. Then I just add clear gloss until it shines and step back a few feet!

finishing touches

Hi there,
Thanks for the responces," mhodgeson" if you want to scratch build a nice electric sailplane, have a look at one that I fancy is the "Watts Up" there is a build thread on this forum and I think plans are available. It has performed very well and looks like a good project.

Anyway over the weekend the covering was completed, the control surfaces all hinged with book binding 3m tape, and the motor bolted in and a few test runs.
The 3s Lipo only made 200watts but with a 4s the motor was pulling a lot harder, I will need to make an adapter cable and re-test 4s with my watt meter.
next it needs the servo wiring and servos set up .
Maybe even fly next weekend if conditions are right.
regards
Mike

All up weight?
Already decided on what I will be building, needs some modifications around the nose to take a motor but that's sorted now. Just waiting for my model room to be refitted before starting.

Hi There,
Not a 100 percent sure but it balances with the motor spinner and batteries at 2000 grams , still need the elevator servo 23gr installed and the receiver, so it might go to 2100grams A.U.W., I am comfortable with this as it is predominantly a slope explorer with a motor to get out of trouble, but will be flown flat field occasionally.

Surprise surprise, no foam and no epoxy for a change, there is a big pile of foam in my warehouse that I will start cutting into a scale JS1 next.

Looks like the Purple Haze will get maidened this comming weekend if the wind predictions hold. Just need to install the the wiring for the elevator servo and choose a prop, then it can fly.
cheers

Looks great! I like foam and composites but there is also something really cool about putting a balsa wing together.

Anyways, I hope to start a biggish glider in composites in the new year once my exams are done and I have more time on my hands.

Finished

Hi all,
The Purple Haze glider is now ready for flight.
I fully charged a 4s 2650mah Battery and with a 11 x 8 folder the WOT
gives a respectable 536 watts with a 39amp draw
After a good run the motor is slightly warm to the touch so all looks good.
Maiden flight next.
regards
Mike
