Servos mounted...yep, these are definitely the best servo screws EVER!!! Worth every penny at only $4-$5/100.

Servos mounted and a little dusty from drilling the hole in the firewall for the throttle.

Here's the throttle linkage. There's plenty of clearance so the fuel tank doesn't get rubbed by the push rod.

Miss Elaine finally arrived!
Great looking and in perfect condition. Thanks Troy Built Models!!!
Found some fiberglass floats that may work extremely well with her.

Landing gear installed

I had to cinch the wires together b/c they kept wanting to slide out of the fuselage before the epoxy dried.

I found this old fuel filler thing in a bin of hardware I inherited from a fellow club member who died last year. I thought it would go along with the retro look of this plane.

I'll have to patch that hole, it was pre-drilled into the fuse and I was hoping it would fit.

This switch was also with the stuff I inherited. I tested it first before installing, just in case.

Sorry to read about your tail wheel problems. My build should go a bit easier, since I will be making mine a seaplane and won't need a tail wheel.
While trying to design floats for this bird, I referenced the manual online. Page 58 has the CG location and is some what confusing. It shows both an 87mm and a 150mm cg. Is the 150mm measurement a lateral measurement?
Any thoughts on this?
Also, if you know the correct cg location, could you give me the measurement from it to the firewall. This will help me in designing the floats.

Thanks again!

I just looked at this again and the measurement would have to be 87mm back from the leading edge. 150mm is almost 2/3 back from the leading edge...that seems a little too far.

Just picked up a Saito 72 4 stroke for this bird. Floats should be here any day now. Now to start designing the float gear....... I'm thinking streamline aluminum tubing for this. Should make it look pretty real.

Here are some full pics I took before I tried to start the engine (unsuccessfully) today.

Various stages of high and low needle valve adjustment. When I get it started (which is happening more frequently now) it won't advance past idle. One click of throttle and it dies.

Still couldn't get it to run past idle. I took it to a friend who's been in the hobby for over 30 years and within five minutes he had the engine running thru the full throttle range. The only problem was that it would randomly die...and sometimes backfire. After finding play in the prop shaft it was his diagnosis that the bearings are shot in this engine (I did get it used from someone on RCUniverse after all). He said he wouldn't trust a plane to that engine and that was all I needed to hear. Monday I'm calling my rep over at Global Hobby/HobbyPeople and ordering a new Magnum .52 four stroke. After shipping it will only be around $10 more to get the Magnum over an ASP from HobbyKing.

The new Magnum 52 is way smaller than the ASP 65!

And it runs better too. This was like the third or fourth tank.

Much less but still nose heavy with the new engine. I created a tray towards the rear to attach the RX battery and RX.

I also relocated the fuel filler and ended up using a regular fuel dot since that's what matched the filler on my fuel can.

It works like a charm! I have it programmed to the gear switch on my Turnigy 9x. When I throw the switch it lights the glo plug. The SwitchGlo emits a light and an audible alert to let you know the glo plug is lit. I have it mixed so when I'm above 25% throttle the unit turns off. Below 25% and it turns back on. It uses the RX battery for power.

Here's the other end that connects to the glo plug. This will make it nice not to have to fiddle with the glo plug stick to start the engine since this plane has a cowl.

Now all I have to do is iron down some wrinkles on the wings and put on a couple small patches and she's ready for the maiden.
