Need for Speed, 480 race bb timing?

I have herd some mention of "timing" Speed race 480 brushed motors. Dose this mean clocking the can against the armature to advance the timeing for better high RPM performance like on a car?
If so, how far do I take it? It makes sense for EDF purposes to maximize higher RPM performance. Whats the deal, can any one give me the how to cliff notes?

Thanks to all!

Just scribe a mark from the case through the end bell so you have a reference to the original timing. Loosen the end bell screws and advance the end bell about 3/32 to 1/8 of an inch from the original location. This was demonstrated to improve dyno efficiency (see Steve Neu's S&E modeler column a few issues back) and visibly reduces brush arcing at higher voltages. My XB-70 is running (3) in series off 27 cells or 9 cells per motor.

Good Luck to you,
