Options for 4 axis foam cutter software
Am interested to hear your options on software for controlling a 4 axis hot wire cnc foam cutter, I am currently mid build and now starting to think about software.
I intend to cut wings and any shape i fancy. I currently use Autocad with cambam or vcarve pro depending on project with mach3 controlling my cnc router.
So lets hear your views on functionality/cost/pros and cons of the software you use.
First question you'll ask is 'whats your budget', well I dont know really, about $80??

What foam cutter software
well...since you already have mach3 pick up a 4 axis screen set from here :
and get Profili from here:
While it doesn't have hot wire control, and GMFC does.
However Profili works well enough for me.
If you use GMFC you have to have a 4khz or 10 khz square wave input..slightly awkward..but no need for Mach3.
there is an associated stepper heat control board (MM2001) but I've never found one for sale it always seems to be necessary to make one...
As an alternative I built and arduino mega based one which mimics the MM2001 board, but uses a chinese stepper driver board for the machine.. I'd be glad to share this if that would help.
The hot wire driver is based on the ufoman post in DIYDrones:
.... significantly expanded to provide GMFC compatibility (and Tjzoide) and a LCD display to show the heat setting.
Hope this gives you some ideas..

This one is free, and from what I hear is worth a try, if you don't mind the German language:

Thanks for the suggestions, I have been playing with foamworks 4. and i like the dxf import function, i'll take some time to play with the ones suggested.

My foam cutter has been on the cards for at least 6 years and only took me a couple of weeks to build once i finally got around to it, sometimes the machine build is more fun than what its final use will be, am even thinking of a reprap printer head build for my router for 3d printing, not that it'll be much use for me but more just to see if it'll work
