Really nice glides! I think you just taught me a new way to fly

Now if only I had some mountains...

I'll bet your neck was sore after that one. How much altitude do you think you had at the high points?

Cheers!

Angry Bird

DJ...We are about the same "vintage" so any exchange of ideas is always helpful.

If the forum would let me indulge...Just for you...The strange item in the background is a biscuit barrel in the form of the "ANGRY BIRD" from the PC game..Not sure if copyright would prohibit you from making a like image..

Welp, almost there. Everything seems to be in order... Now I just wait for a sunny Saturday.

And on a random note.. I hate the stickers on this thing. If you so much as touch them, they just peel right off. It takes little to no effort to remove them. Bit of a shame since they actually look pretty good.

So I'm using the NOVA only for the GPS and current sensor, the IR sensor has been unplugged since it does not work in the Swedish winter weather. I've got a Crius AIO Pro with Arudplane in the middle. Receiver is an RmileC 433mhz unit, with antennas in a V shape. GPS works, RSSI works, the controls react like they should, the surfaces move like they should when the FC is set to "stabilize". Wing spar has been reinforced, foam inserts have been glued in and then taped. Underside and nose have been reinforced with glass-fibre lined tape. I will reinforce the elevator and rudder later, it's not a must but it won't hurt.

Unfortunately, the prop size on the B2 is almost maxed out with 7 inches. Otherwise I would look at a 750KV motor with, say, a 9 inch prop.

I know ecalc, but unfortunately the 3 motors (Bixler2 stock and 2826/2836-1000) are not in ecalc and HK doesn't provide all data.
Get one of these http://smallpartscnc.com/index.php?r...product_id=135 and mount your 9" prop

Anyone order a Bixler 2 recently (Monday when they were back in stock in the US) and have an issue with their payment clearing? I always use paypal with HK and usually the order status changes to "Paid" ASAP. I ordered right away when I got the stock arrival notification. However, I checked the order status yesterday morning and it still said "Unpaid" despite having received an email receipt from Paypal indicating a sent payment to Hextronic etc. SO, this morning I finally contact them through their online chat (which is subpar at best), they clear the payment, but of course the Bixler 2 is now on backorder. First time this has happened to me with HK. A bit frustrating to say the least consider these kits only get stocked once ever 6wks or so.

Do I see a rear elevator servo in that picture ? See POST 2133
Where is the rudder servo ?

I can tell you I'm hating going back to eastern SD where I live. I could get really accustomed to flying in mountains!
I'm not sure on altitude.... It's such a challenging metric to eyeball from the ground. 3-500 meter? How far away is a Bixler2 when you can't make out hardly anything but a white dot anymore? Most of the unsteadiness in the video is from me trying to figure out if I'm going up/down/upside down.

I'm too new to really know much about what I'm doing. I meant to ask in this thread if someone can point me to a good resource on gliders. A book or similar that'll take me from clueless to slightly less clueless. Another thing I'm finding is that it's really challenging to gauge updraft etc. when your point of view is from the ground. I really need FPV capabilities! (Next winter project).

I don't specifically know about updraft, but even if there was some, I think I sabotage the effort willingly as I glide with flaps at half lowered. It results in a steady slow decent and was ideal for the area as there were lots of opportunity to lose the plane in trees, on mountainsides and in rivers.

Until clearing the trees I'm at 100% throttle. Then I back it down to about 85% until I get to altitude. I don't feel I get much from the last 15% other than reduced battery life. I found very fast that making sure the prop is balanced makes a world of difference. The prop doesn't fit worth $#%! on the motor shaft, but with some tape and wizardry it spins as true as I think it can. No vibration, significantly reduced noise and seemingly increased power. I'm only on page 40 of this thread, so I'm sure the prop has been discussed a million times already.

I ordered one right away, paid with paypal, it hasnt shipped yet but says it is at the "being packed" phase. I have had that happen too - you have to stay on top of the order in the early stages - sometimes there are glitches between HobbyKing and paypal.

I have seen pictures of your Bixler and read your blog on the build while I was trying to learn about the Bixler and RC flying in general. You Sir have a fine machine that is being neglected. I for one feel that your Bixler neglect is simply unacceptable and requires you to surrender it to me immediately!

I love flying my Bixler 2 but having dicovered that there are some similar models of 2 meters and 2.4meters span I am thinking of upgrading to the bigger size.

I am planing a month long holliday in Thailand and Laos in two months time so I will wait until I have returned from this trip bfore purchasing the larger model. Maybe by then Hobby King will have a larger version of the Bixler.

Make sure and check the prices w/shipping to your address. I am in the USA and it is only $4 more (to my doorstep) for the 2400mm ws from BH including servos, ESC, and motor . Austraila will be different I suspect.
Oh, the one from rc4y.com is a 2000mm ws with no electronic parts whatsoever.
