Those are Hors Racing units. I've heard good things about them. They look neat too. Same as the TFL units except for the cavitation plate I think.

Nice spot and looks well made they should sell a ton of those at that price point; I see a new tunnel class springing up.

They should make a tunnel class for these outboards, like mini tunnels or something, and restrict modifying these, that way it will be a cheap class to compete in as no one is spending money to modify these motors.

If you were to build a WOF (wood over foam) tunnel meant for a stock 3.5cc K&B (around 24-26" hull) it would probably run really nicely on one of these.

My dream is a twin outboard cat. These would work for that? Maybe a 30-32" hull. Then run it with a 2s battery for each motor and a couple of 60 amp? or 120.

I'd do the 120 just for the safety, although you'll probably be fine on the 60's if you don't have the money. They would probably work pretty well although CG might be difficult.
That is a really nice find scorp, I might need to pick one up just because.

updates on my purchase.

I was out of town til today, so i went over to the post office and picked up the box.

first photo is a comparison of the new motor to the two previous motors that were on the MRP tunnel hull, to give you an idea of the new motor's size. first is the original MRP outboard, which weighs 10 oz. second is the aquacraft EP1 which weighs 16+ oz, and last is the new outboard, weighing less than 8 oz.


second photo is of the motor installed on the MRP. i am running a hobbyking 120amp watercooled ESC, and a 3 cell 3700 mah 25c lipo battery. should have no problems powering the motor.

I will run it with both a GPS and a eagletree, so i should be able to get both a good idea of how fast it can go, and how many amps it will take to get there.

the whole boat, ready to go weighs 2.5 pounds, so it might be a little heavy for the motor/battery combo... but we will see.

i will post again after the run.

What size is the motor.............looks like maybe a 450 size, like 36mm x 42 height or something. You may be able to run 3s with it.

based on the looks of it i would say it is intended to be a 400-450 size heli motor, considering its 3000kvm rating, and the "built-in" fan at the "top" of the motor, as well as the 1/8" shaft... my concern for the 3s run is the load on the motor with the given prop.

28mm diameter
36mm length

ok, i just got back from the pond... good news and bad...

bad news is i need to adjust the motor mount. i have the motor way too low in the water, and at too much up angle, it never really was able to unload. next run i will have the motor about 1/8" higher, and give it a little down thrust.

because of that, the boat was porpoising quite a bit, and top speed was only 22.2 mph on the 3 cell lipo.

good news is that it never used more than 26 amps, average was 18, motor was only slightly warm, no issues with ESC, no issues with battery. I should have no problem either going to a larger or higher pitch prop, or maybe even going to a 4 cell setup. my only concern now is if i go for a higher speed, will the flex cable hold up.

I will post more tomorrow after adjusting the height and angle.

i also have an x632 prop i might play with.

Not sure I would go 4s with that motor............it's smaller than i thought it was, 3s puts it at around 35,000+/- rpms, that should be perfect for your application, just use different props til you get the right one.......................just my 2 cents worth on that. Try it with 3s with the stock 432 and raise it up as you had planned and go from there.

second outing on the water.

remounted the motor so it is 1/8" higher, with slight negative (nose down) angle. went with a hyperion 35c 3 cell 2200 mah lipo this time instead of the older 3700 25c, and went out with both the GPS and the eagletree. I brought the following 3 props:

stock aluminum, labelled as a 32mm 1.4 X prop
octura x632
grimracer 36x55

following data:

stock: 27.3 mph, max 57 amps
x632: 26.9 mph, max 52 amps
36x55: 30 mph, max 66 amps

looks like the stock prop is more like a 1.6x not a 1.4x

during the testing, on the 36x55 it was very light in the nose, but handled well, i was able to do several laps with minimal slow down for corners, maybe 80% thru the corners. had to dial the steering way down, got it to spin out twice at the start. later i took off the gps and eagletree, moved the battery all the way to the front, and it really handled well.

the 36x55 is the largest prop that can be put on the outboard, both diameter and pitch, only had 1mm or so between prop and cavitation plate, and was not able to put the lock nut on all the way, it didn't tighten down all the way to the nylon.
