Need electric motor suggestion 50cc sized

Hi,

I just ordered a 17.5 lb 86" 3d airplane and would like to put an electric motor in it.
I estimate with motor, servos, batteries, etc. it will weigh up to 21 pounds.

I'd love some suggestions for a motor that is 50cc or larger and costs less than $280. The less the price the better.

Thank you.

I run the Hacker Q80-7M on 10S with a Castle ICE-2 HV 160A ESC. It swings a 24x10TH Mejzlik CF propeller around 6400 RPMs and produces about 32 lbs of static thrust... definitely enough for a 19 pound 84" Extra 300

21 lbs. sounds heavy for a 50cc 3D plane, are you sure about your weights? One of my favorite planes a few years back was a BME 50cc sized Edge540. With a Hacker A6014L ($260) and 10 cells she weighed a little under 17lbs. I moved this power system into my 21lb. Sig Sundancer and it will still hover but the pull out is not very strong. If you end up over 20lbs. go with the A6018L on 12S.

Yes, haven't put the sbach together yet but pilotrc lists it at 15.7 lbs, 65cc rimfire is 3.26 lbs, castle esc is .48 lbs, two 8000mah 6s batteries are 4.86 lbs, prop and spinner .5 lb, servos, wires, switches and reciever with battery about 1.5 lb - 2lbs, totals about 27 pounds.

The video above has a 19 pound plane, in it. 21 would probably be okay on the setup there.

Also check out my blog (www.toms3dhuckfest.blogspot.com) for a quick write up on the power system.

Hi

I have an 87" Pilotrc sbach 342 converted to the electric motor hyperion 5045-B18 running on 12s 3700 or 4000mah. This motor is out of production but is very similar to hacker A60 16 or 18L. Previously it ran on 5000mah and a heavier motor and after the weight savings she flies much better imo. All up weight is 7.6kg or 17lbs.

I am currently converting a 25% Great Planes pitts m12s to electric. Bought the turnigy 60-80 size motor. I am waiting for the esc to come in and havent fired it up yet. This motor weighs 3lbs 7.2oz. My other choice would have been the Rimfire 65cc. My pitts will be roughly 20lbs, so i will let you know how it pulls on 12 cell.

What kind of flight times can you get with a 50cc converted to electric? Seems the mah range here is 4000-8000. I'm looking at gtting the aero works checkmate and want to know if doing an electric conversion would be feasible. I only fly electric now so would be easier to stay electric rather than buy all the field equipment to go gas.

On my Pilot RC Sbach 342 87" and Extra 300 88" I get 6-7 min mixed flying on 12s 4000mah because of the low weight and wingloading and 20-25% is left in the batteries.

Hey richh73, your checkmate would be similar to my Great Planes pitts m12s. I am at 21 pounds with electric setup and it is insane. I get about 7 minutes of stunt flying/ mixed 3d. You can see my video on youtube.( Great Planes pitts m12s 50cc electric conversion)
