,one of my post i land the plane 3d style because the feild was littered with tufts of grass , but most scale landings are nosed over, but if you flair the elevators up on toch down and retard the power it lands nice

Nose over tendency looks to be built in to the Dr1 due to its proportions. This is confirmed by the posts above. Just have to allow for it if you want to fly one, especially a small one.

Were we talking about a large scale model or a full size example, I'd think wheel landings would be the way to go.

The best landings I am able to get require a fairly surface, being able to bleed off just enough speed so that when you touch down, up elevator forces the tail down without lifting the front landing gear off the ground. It's tricky for sure. If you don't nose it over, it tends to want to wander a bit. That's why most of the full scale versions have wingtip skids. The pilots and engineers were well aware of the squirrely ground handling.

in my kit i have the "axe handles incorperated into the "I" struts just for that same reason ,and the wheels are for enough fwd past the center line that it wont nose over on landings as easily as norm.

Glad to hear that. Should be able to pick up an M.O. tomorrow so I can get the kit order placed.

Haven't got started yet. Spring sprung with its' usual splurge of "required" activities before I got the plane in progress off my bench.

Kit looks good though. Laser cutting is the berries. I like having plenty of extra material as I find in this kit. I understand the desirability of minimal tare when laying out the parts on a sheet, but it seems like I always wind up putting any extra material to good use though.

I'll post in this thread when I have some progress to report.
