That's too hot for man or beast or EDF motor. The plus is you probably get to fly all winter log when I am shoveling snow.

Here is hat cam video of the Habu flying on 5S with a 80 amp ESC upgrade.

Sorry for the "dot in the sky video" but at our field we have to fly a large pattern because it is mainly giant scale planes. You will have to watch full size to see the plane on vertical climbs.

The point of the video is you can see it is faster and it has better, but not unlimited vertical. Too bad it didn't come with a 5S.

Habu 5S 8-18-12 (4 min 29 sec)

Nice clear video, that flies very well even with gear hanging down.5s really makes an improvement from stock! You guys have a real nice wide open field too, wish we had clearer end of runway areas, tree lines and lake make it a little tight here.

Yes, the #16 HD key cam has some amazing video quality for 15 gram camera velcroed to the bill of my cap. I have it dialed in pretty good.

The field is very nice to have within a 20 minute drive of my house. The 400 foot runway has a nice approach across a corn field from the left with a 8 foot fence being the only obstacle. To the right we had to spend a couple of thousand dollars to take down some trees that had grown in the last 25 years. Our club specializes in giant scale planes and turbines. Hence, the large pattern I am flying. My Habu is a "puny foamy."

Just got back from trip to friends house in Colorado.....1 mile in alltitude makes a difference flying planes! My Habu2 with new 6s lipo picked up quite a few MPH faster but take offs took twice as long and landings were a bit hotter. It came back with "most". of my other planes in the shape they left in.

Takeoff and flight from Grass field

Plenty of power for this and landing gear handled it well.
Habu 2 @ field (2 min 7 sec)

Wow thats impressive! Is there a way to do the upgrade without adding all the weight? If I were to do that I would need a drag chute to reduce that rollout distance! :-)

Well, its give n take. I do not mind the extra weight, handles wind better. I guess if you have flaps that would help on landings and slow it down. I know its going to take at least 5s lipo setup to get near that kind of thrust without going way up on amps.I am at 6s with mine,I could go to 7s but mines doing what I want it to do,takeoff with authority and go verticle.... Still trying to get doppler on this video, fan is quiet and program doesnt like that.....

--After numerous flights on 4s and 5s, I have noticed the bearing housing at the output shaft end is wobbled out due most likely to unbalanced OEM fan.

--My next eflight fan will need to be balanced -- probably send it to effluxrc or tamjets

Yes, I would do that on higher powered setups, rpms will kill bearings when out of balance even a little.Better to catch it on the ground then in the air as had happen to me before, never lets go ina good spot....
Seems I cannot get a good doppler on my last video, for a change,I wish it made more noise!

Hey Gary, go back a page and see what kind of reading you can get of my Habu taking off from our grass field.Just curious how fast it is without the thrust tube that I never put in yet....Thank you sir, Joe

Oh and allthough I dont know Gary other then from these threads, his customer service and knowledge have been 110%!I have quite a few items I bought from him,and zero problems.

I just purchased the Velocity/edf hobbies 2950kv 4.0mm 70mm motor, my first real step up from the stock eflite habu motor. I'm going to be using an CC Ice lite 100amp ESC, 6S Hyperion 2600mah 35C or 6S Align 3300mah 40C batts and the 5 blade fan/housing from an older 3575KV RC Lander unit. All that said, should I be at all concerned about the gauge of the wires attached to the motor? They appear to be 12ga at best, whereas the leads from the ESC are 10ga. I'm putting 5mm bullets on the ESC and was planing to make a 5mm to 3.5mm adaptor to connect to the leads that run thru the Habu fuse.
