Sorry cant post a shot right now. But.. to explain further. My RX only has 4 outputs. 1,2,3, and sbus. Currently I only use SBUS to the YS-X6.
On the back on the YS X6, I have all ports filled with 8 esc/motor wires, and ext1, ext2 for the roll/tilt of the camera gimbal. The ONLY port left without a wire is EXT3 ( in the user manual is labeled as "camera".

I purchased a S-Led optical trigger cable from RC Shutters - Plugged it into the ext3 port and tried to assign a 3 way switch on my super8FG to control the trigger led.. BUt when I throw the switch my gimbal twitches on the roll axis with the switch- and camera isnt firing from the led obviously.

rc shutter wire --> http://www.rcshutter.com/index.php?r...&product_id=50

I'll try to get images, but either way if anyone has any advice I will take it- using the ext3 port or one of the 3 regular outputs on my Futaba RX other than the sbus..

Only this that is in the Release notes.

Date: October 22th, 2012
YS-X6 Firmware version: 2012-10-22
YS-X6 Software version (GCS)
(1) Android : 2012-10-22
(2) Iphone/Ipad: 2012-10-22
(3) PC: 2012-08-15
User Manual version: 2012-10-22
What is new?
* In Auto-waypoints flight mode, height, hovering time and flying speed of each waypoint can be independently
setup. (Need to use the newest GCS)
* Low voltage alert=Red light fast blinks
* Low voltage alert urgently=Red light keeps going on.
* When there is no ground station, can enter into Target Lock mode and Care Free function by CH6 switch.

Using the PC GCS 21020815 you could make the changes to the waypoints that they are now making available in the Tablet GCS, but it was not operational, so now they must have upgraded the FW to allow for that.

This one is good improvement, but i'm not sure do i understand right,

GCS connected > ch6 is like it was before AH/Waypoint/RTH but if GCS is not connected YS takes command as AH/Target lock/Carefree. So RTH is only working if GCS is connected? I don't understand why they did not use ch7/8/9/10 for that so rth could still work from own button.

I haven't read the manual so I cannot comment . I have a few ideas as to why they may be doing that and it is all linked to managing how many satellites are locked in when switching on RTH when using the Tx.

I just wish they can ask english speaking people to give names for the butons that make sense.

I also did some programming in my life and to change names captions for butons is not difficult takes 30min off their time.

I looked at the DJI iOSD again.
I though it was a ground based osd.
Nothing special that any other can already do.

It is nice they have av switcher.
And integration into the WKM.
Fail on no current sensor though.

I am still undecided on weather I will use an OSD or just use a Ground station overlaying on a video.

Since I am more interested in the mission and not fun FPV flying, the GCS screen is more useful for me.

A video can be shown in the green blue background of the artificial horizon window.

Updated Manual

Has anyone heard wispers on an updated manual yet?

There seems to be a big shortfall in this department.

If ZeroUAV are watching/monitoring this thread then please revisit your manual for the mental well being of your customers.

I suggest that you use the android GCS to set it up. It is best if you use the "Install Guide" on the Android GCS as this takes you step by step through the procedure.

We haven't seen pics of your setup yet. Just 2 things: Do not use the sponge under the IMU and do not locate the IMU under the Main Controller.

Cheers
Rob

Edit:

Below are the steps out of the Install Guide:

Start Install

Check Data is connected. If connected click next

Step 1 : Please press the button "Channel Alignment" and confirm it, and then push/pull all pole positions of the RC Tx to the maximum and minimum of the leftmost/rightmost within 5 seconds. After 5 seconds the AP will finish the auto collection. Please confirm whether the manual operation and real RC operation displayed in "Data Interface" keep coincidency when moving any operating level. Only go to the next step after confirming that they are coincident.

Step 2: Check CH5/CH6 and set FS

Please carefully confirm whether the CH5/CH6 channel is correct: check whether the flight status bar on the GCS interface is switched to "Manual" "Circle Position" "Auto waypoint circling" and "back Landing" when moving CH5/CH6.
Set the FS of RC Tx as CH5=position 3, Channel 6: position 3, Thr is near the middle position and check whther the flight status is "Back Landing" by powering off the RC Tx.

Step 3: ESC stroke calibration

Please get into the settings first (Flight status displays "Settings", break the pole as V shaped to open throttle insurance and push the THR pole position to the maximum within 5 seconds, power on the ESC after completing above operation. Pull the throttle pole back to minimum after a prompt sound from the ESC. After completing the ESC stroke calibration please exit the settings, and get into next step.

Step 4: Set craft styles and parameters

Please read the user manual carefully, fill in correct parameters and recheck it. Push the throttle after breaking the pole and check whether the mixing control method is correct after starting the motors

Step 5: Check the installing directions of the IMU/GPS

Step 6: Complete magnetic calibration in outdoor space
Rob thanks you for the time and effort you put into your replies and I will go over your info.

Just the point is I was hoping not to have to rely on the Android GCS because Ill be flying my other rigs at the same time when I go fly the YS, and these are all run from my small laptop GCS setup and I do rpefer to just use the Rx and not bother switching from one to the other. As you advised I did manage to get the setup and calibration working using the Android setup. It was all simply a mistake earlier that I didn't realise I had to do the whole calibration process all within the 5 second time frame. Now I have done this it works doing the calibration on the PC GCS as well.

My setup is on the link I sent earlier and yes I did remove that soft sponge mount since these photos were taken. http://www.diydrones.com/forum/topic...age=7#comments

I appreciate you help very much. Thanks mate.

Not sure if i get what you mean? You want to fly all your rigs simultaneously and not like to use android app? Why not buy another small laptop?

How do you guys carry out the above step as per the manual. The sep-up procedure asks you (because the FC is powered on) to go through the install procedure, exit that and go into settings, carry out V shaped 'thingy', push the throttle up to max, and then power on the ESC....What ?...one at a time or all at once. Do you have a seperate power supply for your ESCs than you have for your FC ? For a simple minded person as myself how do you interpret and carry out, step-by-step, the above procedure ?

David.

Just follow these instructions from my old post.

If you do it correctly, your ESCs will be calibrated all at once. That's it!

Please note that this calibration is for setting the throttle range of the ESCs to comply with the YS-X6' range. Even if you've calibrated the throttle range of your ESCs individually that doesn't matter because you still need to run ESC calibration from the GCS.

Also note that you still need to run typical ESCs calibration for each of the ESCs e.g. setting battery type to NiMH not lipo etc before you calibrate the ESCs all at once through the GCS.

David,

no worries. Please redo the channel and compass calibration as well as check the settings: magnetic declination, aircraft type, lipo cell number etc. Also check the "radio" and "real servo" values in the GCS as well as paying attention to altitude value and velx, vely and veld numbers. Make sure "real servo" value correspond correctly to tx input.

Your multi should fly well.

Hello,

Ok I upgraded my GCS on my iPad (cant do it to the iphone because I updated it to iOS6 and there are no jailbreaks available unfortunately)

Set some way points and discovered purely by accident that if I tap on teh touch screen rapidly over and over, over the way point you wish to edit and eventually it will launch the "Waypoint Tool" window.

Now, does anyone know how to set these new functions?

1. Hovering time: if I enter 30 does it = 30 seconds?

2. Hovering Flag: what does this mean and do?

3. Snapshot: There are several choices here for example:

Disable snapshot
Enable snapshot
Interval snapshot 1
Interval snapshot 2
Take snapshot/sec
Keep Previous State

Thanks in advance!
Lo

My Wifi modem is partially inoperative. I can get data but cannot send orders to XS-X6.

Direct serial link (USB) is OK. Serial Link + Data modem is also OK with the PC.

I'm looking for a spare Wifi modem from ZeroUAV and also in contact with the support team.

I'm having a similar problem, upgraded the fc and tablet and I'm not getting any data on the tablet from the fc. Tablet is logged on the WIFI transmitter says it's locked (solid blue light), but my tablet is not sending or receiving data and it worked fine before the upgrade. Do I have to rerun the whole init setup again?

Fine tuning yaw

Greetings YS-X6 brothers!

I am almost done with my setup and would like to proceed to outdoor flight tests, however I noticed that M2 & M4 motors are warmer than M1, M3 by almost 10 C

I observed REAL SERVO numbers and noted that at hover (manual mode thr=65)

RUDDER= L9

that means my model is wanting to yaw right and so AP is giving L9 input to balance the craft - this means motors on these arms work harder=higher heat.

Any advice on how to FINE TUNE YAW so I can make motors work more or less equally?

Is the YAW stick centered?
If you are not making it YAW, you may need to do radio calibration again.

Otherwise your frame may need thrust adjustment.
Motors might be tilted sightly?

A few of us are having a similar problem.I suggest that you reinstall the previous version until they have fixed it. You should not have to rerun the init setup again. But not everyone.

I wonder if they changed the GCS protocol but haven't upgraded the GCS yet.

Hi Rick.

The waypoint upgrade is permanently loaded into your system and therefore any new FW has no impact on it.

I just checked again with ZeroUAV and this is what they say "It is permanently installed once loaded, and the upgrade has no relationship with new firmware."

Does that mean that I still would have to install the new firmware?

I flew my X8 loaded with the firmware that they uploaded in RCG on 22 October (though the file was dated 5 October). Waypoint seems to work well, same goes for gps mode.

Have you tested if the bug in rth and low satellite strength is still there? I guess it is as they didn't know about the bug in Zero yet when i talked with them today.

That particular "feature" is still there. But the test I did was performed on the ground. I dont want to risk crashing my droidworx cx.

They knew about it.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...0#post23038678

But guess they did not consider it important enough to fix.

Looking at their , YS-X6 Release Tracking notes2012-10-22
It is all feature additions.
No bug fixes. In any of the last 3 releases.

Latest change:-
* In Auto-waypoints flight mode, height, hovering time and flying speed of each waypoint can be independent
setup. (Need to use the newest GCS)
* Low voltage alert=Red light fast blinks
Low voltage alert urgently=Red light keeps going on.
* When there is no ground station, can enter into Target Lock mode and Care Free function by CH6 switch.

Simple economics, there are not enough people crashing from the bugs to impact their bottom line.
Or affect sales.
No need to fix.
Not the most consumer friendly approach if you happen to be the person doing the crashing.

The navigation should be easy enough to test on the ground.
Props off, or even motors connected.
Arm and simulate lift off by lifting the craft.
Switch to nav and walk the craft in the correct direction.
Cover the gps with a metal plate.
See what happens in the GCS.

I would do this test but my FC is still away getting repaired.

Right, so when you need the system to work, emergency RTH it fails and you have to rely on something else.
Sounds like unlisted iOS Jailbreak feature.
If it does not work as advertised don't bother listing it.

If it didn't work so well when it does I would have droped this system by now.
The open source systems are catching up fast.

It sounds like they have changed the GCS protocol.
They should just go with MAV Link and call it a day
I can dream.

I don't think this is a valid test as the system senses that it is on the ground and automatically turns the motors off. From what I remember this was discussed somewhere early in May this year.
