Question
Airfoil, Clark-Y vs. NACA 2412?

I'm currently designing an airliner build in SolidWorks (bugger, my secret project is no longer secret ) and I've come to the point of creating the wings.

I have no real knowledge about airfoils but after a bit of researching on the net, I decided upon either the Clark-Y or NACA 2412. I understand they are both very similar to one another and have found mixed opinions on which to use for rc models.
Can anyone advise which would be best to use for an airliner build? Or alternatively, if someone has a different idea of an airfoil to use I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Alex.

Good choice Alex! That looks like a very efficiant airfoil! Offering good speed characteristics & lift.

Thanks Chris. Which do you think would work best? I just ran some tests and it looks as though the Clark-Y is a slightly better candidate, see pics below, but I am not sure

Alex I would go with the airfoil on the right is haw a higer lift coeificiant & lower drag coeficiant. You always want more lift at lower drag.

You've got two blokes right in the UK who can do it. . . .Keenan & Brett.

Keenan can't do it anymore, lost the program in a system crash

You don`t need Profili Pro to export an airfoil to DXF. It`s also working on unregistered version.

And try NACA4412. I`m gonna use this one on my 767.

I found that after a while of using it. I had been trying to use the Wing Panels Management bit to make up all the sections of the wing only to find it had no export function in the free version. Then me and keenan had a good look through and found out how to work it.

Thanks for that, looks like a good airfoil with even more lift, may have to change and use that one. Shame I spent all night/morning (i've not been to sleep yet ) building the model in SolidWorks.
Oh well, I have to redo the wings anyway, i didn't add the dihedral

I shall be looking forward to the progress updates! I won't be starting the build of my project till I get everything sorted in SolidWorks first, that way it should all go together nicely.

I have one more question, in your 767 thread, you said that you are using NACA 0009 and 0012 for stabs. Is one the root foil and the other the tip foil? Or is one for the horizontal stab and the other for the vertical?
