Plane chase

Here is chasing 2 planes with the Skywalker. Music from the French/german/canadian series of the 70's "les faucheurs de marguerites" wich was relating the very begining of aviation.

@ DJO - In a couple of your videos it looks like the receiver di-pole is sideways. Is this for a reason or am I just missing something?

What do you mean? The best signal comes out from the wires on top, not from the ends of them. So pointing one of the ends of the antenna at the plane is actually the worst thing to do.

So you fly around directly above your ground station 100% of the time?
If you don't, you'll be flying through those nulls any time you fly a circle around the ground
station. It'll be especially painful if you happen to wander into the null while far away.
Not to mention that if the antenna on the plane is vertical, you're creating a 30dB or higher
drop in signal strength just by having them cross polarized all the time. If you put the
antenna on the plane horizontal then you'll fly through the nulls twice every time the plane
does a 360. There's very good reasons people orient their omnis (both of them) vertically.
The only real exception is for super high altitude flight.

Ummm, yes I do fly above and in front of my ground station most of the time, there's no point flying behind myself or to the sides... occasionally I do but not for long, so I just point my antenna like that! LOL geez!

Doesn't address the cross polarization issue. Oh well, you'll learn eventually.

Wow man, I'm so sorry that I'm not an expert on antennas! Sheesh dude, I can't afford a patch antenna right now so this will do. If you're looking for the cleanest, clearest, longest range, best quality recorded FPV videos then just stay clear of mine, LOL

What Deamon means is that your antenna on the GS should be placed vertically, not horizontally. Same for the antenna on your plane. Radiation patern goes like a donut, or ripples when you throw a rock on the water. If you want your antenna to cover the flying area, vertically is the way to go.

No need to buy anything else. you might want to look at this video:

Antennas 101 - Polarization, Diversity & Gain Patterns (27 min 56 sec)
