Start of Another Micro Nieuport-11

In what may be the one of the last in my series of my micro Nieuports I'm starting a 12.5" WS Nieuport-11. Well matbe a 28 somewhere down the road.

Speedy01,Gene sized it up for me and I plan to use Vapor e-gear.

Included a few pic's of some of my Micro WWI birds including my 14"WS NP-11

I'll have to post the video on it.

What templates are you using? Are the others (except the other nieuport and the sopwith tripe) flyzone conversions?

One DR-I is a scratch build, the Sopwith Triplane is Jin's kit, the Nieuport-11 is scratch the Albatros and other DR-I's are FZ's

The paper plans are from ECards paper models.

So after this what WWI plane are you thinking of next? Ever thought of maybe a Gotha bomber? That would be a nice addition to the German fleet as it will have a strong escort force to protect it from those nasty Nieuports.

No bombers for me just the scouts. Maybe an E-III

However, I'd like to get Zeppelin paper plan size it to 1:24 scale and have Jin work up a laser cut 1mm Depron foam kit with some sort of helium bag inside and a couple of micro motors and props.

Now that would be cool

Thanks Nath, but not hardly.

I enjoy the history of these plane and of those who flew them and the fun of building and flying them. Anyone can do these paper to Depron foam conversions. It is easy once you get the hang of it. They also can look pretty good and fly good too.

Got some of the control surfaces done just going with rudder and elevator. This NP-11 has a 12.5" WS and I'm using Vaport e-gear that my friend Speedy01/Gene gave me to play with. My goal is to try and keep it to the same overall weight of the Vapor 12grs or so +- though the weights starting to add up

Note: The motor mount is 2mm Depron foam with sanded clear light plastic, the LG axle joint is 1/32 ply with sanded clear light plastic this gives these areas extra strength without too much extra weight.

Installed the motor/gearbox, brick and painted the prop. Ready for the push rods.
I'll see how she flys before adding a fake LeRhone.

Got the push rods in, finished the LG and made the wheels. Thought I'd add some crushed aluminum tubes to the fuselage to help strengthen the LG positions. The wheels are 2mm Depron with 1/32 Ply back and brass tube. CF rod connector and wire axle for suspension.

Next add the bottom wing, fuselage bottom then the top wing and make the Lewis Gun.

Raoul Lufbery stopped by to oversee the construction of his NP-11

Got the bottom wing, LG and tail skid on. Top wing fitted but not attached yet as the struts are not finished. So far everything's going together really well.

Weight is adding up though and I'm at a total weight of 16 grs now with every thing on the scale.... I'm not sure how the Vapor motor/gearbox and prop will work with this bird.
If there's not enough power I will go with a BSD 7mm motor and gearbox.

After reviewing colors and documents on Luf's NP-11 N1256 it appears that the undersurface of this bird was more likely blue based on it's number so that's what I'm going with.

Got some color on bottom surfaces, bottom wing French roundels, and worked on all the top wing struts.

So far he just stands there and has said nothing a man of few words...

Got the top wing on and ready for the first test flight. Seems like there's plenty of power to fly it and she glide tested very good.

AUW so far with an 80 Mh battery 19grs I will mostlikey be up to 21 grs when finished with Lewis gun pilot and all paint. I think it should be a very good flyer.

My good buddy Speedy01 (Gene) helped me out again and worked up the proper tail data for this bird so I could make up a tissue decal. I just put it on with water to see how it looks, I'll put them on after I paint it.

Looks nice! Are you going to give it a gun and mini tail wires?

Thanks RC.

Yes, a Nieuport -11 would not be right with out a Lewis gun and flying wires. Check out my two previous 14"WS Nieuport=11's in this forum.

I still have lots of detail to do yet but hope to test fly tomorrow first.

I'm making a guillows BF109 (505) and I'm loving the threads I've found here!

Do you think I could use the guts from a crashed ember 2 for power?

I've been flying helis, but it seems I don't have the knack, and the bigger I go the worse I get!

I think I'll order some foam, as I've been making paper airplanes and things for a while! (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1309681)

I have guts from an MSR and also a CX3.

Thanks and
