Gee Bee R3 Starmax (Dymond, Modster)

Hi,

today I got my Gee Bee R3 from HEPF Modellbau and will show you some details of this beautiful airplane. It came in two days from Austria to germany - that's fast !

Video :

Staufenbiel GEE BEE R3 EP (2 min 49 sec)

It is labelled as Dymond, some other call it Modster but it is always Starmax.

I'm sure to change some things to my standard but we will see, first some

details of the parts that come in a nice packed box.

Here the hinges for elevator, ruder...

cowling should have screwed to the fuselage to this female screw but found its way beside the female screw into the plastic and fuselage...

the original paint was inside the cowl, too - bad idea, very sticky - needed twenty minutes to solve the problem...

The water decals could have been applied much better but that's the price for the price...

motor mounting is screwed to a piece of wood glued into the fuselage - I'm going to reglue everything ...

One of the plugs to the motor is allready loosen ...

Things that have to be corrected :

screwlock to all screws at the motor - done

completing some glue to the motor mount (wood) / fuselage - done

vent hole for the fuselage to prevent overpressure

shrink tubing for the motor plugs - done

fixing of the ESC - done

loosening of the cowl - done

remake of the ruder hinges - done

strengthening of the tailwheel carrier - done

staining of the cockpit - done

To be continued...

Did a little optical remake to clean the look with self cutted black and white thin adhesive strips.

I used Tamiya clear varnish to bring some shine on the red surfaces...

Now it needs some lettering "Gee Bee" " R3" some sponsors and perhaps the round Texaco sticker + a nice pilot.

In the evening it will be maidened...

Hi guys,
Well, it is so easy to make basical tricks and as somebody said, so esay to make knife edges!
Landing needs keeping some speed, and kiss the field, or it will bump!
In first flight, I was little tail heavy, and not enough speed to take off. So the plane stalled and I broke the prop'. Now it is flying with a 13X6, not very speedy. I think that stock prop is a 13X7. I will try a 14X7 asap.

Kiaro, are you referring to the battery hatch on top of the fuselage? I think you probably are. The latch is very tight at first. It requires quite a bit of effort to snap it loose. Once I got mine open I put some grease on it and added a strip of clear tape to use as a handle to pull it up. Just grip it down at the bottom on both sides on the end nearest the cockpit and give it a good strong pull up and you should get it to release.

Oh and by the way, as suggested by someone on the HK site, I upgraded my esc to a 60A and use 5 cell batteries. The motor can easily handle it, and it gives it quite a bit more power. I highly recommend it.

Just got mine, all the parts look really nice, but fer hivvens sake !!! What kind of a manual is this that comes with it? Does anyone have a link to some pictures I can actually see?
I'd really appreciate any sort of help on this, as I'm no pro modeler. I can turn my hand to most things though.
Thanks in advance.
