Classic Gods please forgive me for I have strayed…

I’ve never done gas before but when I read about these new Italian Mintor 22 Engines I had to have one. Especially for what I guess is an introductory price of $248 shipped. That’s less than a Chinese DLE20. So it was either find a chain big enough to wear this jewel around my neck or find an airplane to stuff it in…

The new Hanger 9 Christen Eagle ARF seems to fit the bill. This thing is an incredible value also. $329 shipped from Atlanta Hobbies. It has 9 different Ultracote colors top and bottom of the wings, stab! After trying to stuff the radio into the Mystery Ships fues, this one is almost comical. You can fit a whole box of Captain Crunch in the cowl alone! (That’s the unit of measurement I use for volume).

Before I found classic pattern my favorite was scale classic aerobatic acft; Pitts, Decathlon, Smith, anything piloted by a Franklin, etc. Low, slow, tumbling, smoking, prop barking aerobatics. Anything but a CapEdgeTannaYak. I think this combo is going to be pretty cool.

I won’t bore you with the assembly here but I’ll post something when it’s finished.
Eric

Maybe we can start a little thread…
So what else do you classic pattern guys fly besides classic pattern?

Well,
It would've been better a Pitts Special, but at least it's a Scale Aerobatic Biplane. Any chick can do acro in a monoplane!
I actually have a 1/4 Scale Super Chipmunk I'll need a 100 something twin for, so I guess we all have our vices.

Nice combo Eric!
I love scale biplane myself. Well...I just love biplanes in general as long as they can do aerobatics.

I've got an Ace Weeks Special and a Weeks Solution, both are ~50CC size kits. They're on the shelf with a Carl Goldberg Jungmann, all 3 versions of the Aeromaster (5) kits total, and a little GeeBee Dreamer.
I also have a Great Planes Ultimate 40, and the 1.60 size ARF.

Ive got a DA 50, a 3W 48 twin, and a Brillelli 46 (Poulan saw engine conversion). No Chinese engines for me.

Classic pattern and aerobatic bipes!

Eric,

Super cool. Please do post pictures and results. Seeing a bi-plane always makes me think of the airshows I went to as a kid. Sean D Tucker is the bomb.

Besides Classics I am a sucker for electric 3d foamies.....

Here is a video a posted a bunch of years ago of me flying a e foamie bi-plane.

I fly a 100 cc Yak (107" ws) with a 3W-106 engine. Insanely easy to fly. It will knife edge all day long but of course a lot of that is prop. Landings are the same, usually the gentlest of ground contact. But I have to look at the wheels hanging out as I fly around and that I don't like.

I fly 50cc gassers most of the time. I've gotten very lazy as I gotten older and they fit the bill well for me. I will always love the Classic Pattern stuff and will always have at least one.

The DA-50's I fly most of the time now are about as reliable as time. My first gas airplane was an Aeroworks Yak with a DA-50 and a tuned pipe. It's my Classic Pattern roots that makes me want to put a tuned pipe on everything The Yak died from my stupidity a few months ago. Waiting too long to recover from an inverted flat spin with a snap happy airplane. Before you could say "oh crap" it was a pile of kindling with a bag of Lays potato chips scattered over it.

I now have a Aeroworks Extra 300 and a Composite ARF Extra 330L I bought used both with DA-50's. Another airplane I get to fly now and then is a 3 meter Composite ARF Sukhoi SU-31with a DA-200 four cylinder. It belongs to the guy that taught me how to fly in 1985. It is so far out of my budget it's incredible, but if I ever hit the Lotto, well you know how that goes.

Here are a few pics of my airplanes including a before and after shot of the aforementioned Yak. In the before shot of the Yak it's sitting with the big Sukhoi. I also included a link to a walk around video I made of the Sukhoi. It's more of a stumble around with the bad camera work, but you get the idea.

Carf SU-31 Walk Around (2 min 4 sec)

The 50 cc is a good size. The 100 cc size is a bit big sometimes. I have no interest in the 150 - 200 cc sizes.

50cc is about the biggest airplane I feel comfortable getting in my workshop at home. They also fit in my truck pretty well, anything bigger I would need a trailer. Of course I did see a YouTube video of a guy hauling a Krill 100cc Sukhoi on the roof of his BMW, thats a bit much for me.

Buying any internal combustion engine is ok with the Classic Gods as long as you don't 3d with it.

Exactly! The closest thing to a hover I’m going to do is a long scale-like tail slide.
Oh… smoke, I need smoke!
