Yes I was thinking of the tips and the next 2 panels done in transparent red/green.

I boxed in the bottom hatch opening with CF and made this hatch out of lexan. It still has the protective film on it. A clear hatch will let more light out.

I need cooling air to have a exit. Proto...could you mill out some nice slots in the lexan like on the bottom of the Extra canister tunnel?

I should be able to do that... Sketch up what you want and I'll see if I can't write some code to do it.

Rainy day, good time to work on this hatch.

I drew up an array of exit holes and cut this template on the vinyl cutter. Put the template on the lexan cover. Now it's time for the Dremel.

As a kid I couldn't color inside the lines. I'm not much better with a Dremel but it turned out OK. Used some super magnets to hold it on, no screws.

No but thanks for the offer. A rainy Sunday took care of that.

Thinking about the cables from the wing to fuse. I don't want to have 5 cables to sort out and attach in the dark. Considering using a 40 pin ribbon cable and header for one wing connection. The minimum I can get by with is 12 wires, and most connectors get large in that number of pins. A 40 pin ribbon cable I can double up the current carrying wires.

Why not cut up some JST-XH balance extensions? Why do you need 12 wires?

So I am considering the wing color scheme.

How about leaving the red/green leading on all the time and wire the bays to the RGB controller. They will be able to strobe, chase and fade. I could do the leading edges also but I have found large strips flashing to be too disorienting.

This would be 6 meters of LED strip, 360 individual LEDs, pulling 1.2 amps at full brightness.

A note on LED tape.

There are two kinds of LED tape I find most common for our purpose. The LED strip from Hobby King and from Hobby Partz.

Both LED strips seem to be electrically the same, they draw the same current vs voltage. 200ma at 12v per meter. Same brightness.

The Hobby King is physically a larger strip, thus heavier but easier to solder.

The Hobby Parz is physically smaller (exactly 6mm wide so it fits perfectly on the edge of depron foamys) but is harder to solder. The pads are extremely small and need to be "tinned" before attaching wires.

So does anybody have a comment on the wing? If you think it sucks just tell me. I can take it.

I love the look of wing!!! That will stand out well, and make it easy to see in the sky. Go for it!

I don't like it. I would do the interior in solid white so it is more neutral with the color leds behind it.
