Here's a little history on the B-47. It is a small world. The pilot of this B-47, Capt. Earl Koehler, is my sister-in-laws uncle. He is still alive although getting very old and in poor shape physically. Distinction of being the pilot that dropped a nuclear bomb on the US! And yes, he never liked to talk about it!!!!

Great Story J . I would think the fault in that story doesnt lie with the flight crew , just happened to be a 1 in 3 chance of which plane was going to be the 1 . How does one design a Nuclear bomb drop that can be released by pulling a blind lever ? The guy who did that should be the one name everyone should remember

I looked up the place on google maps and could not locate the crater. I guess it has been filled to make way for other housing in that area. Interesting story though.

OK, we made Gallup NM FINALLY! Takeoff was backed up to about 0900. Rumor has it that one of the standby crew got his snoot in the jug last night and had trouble answering the bell this morning. Hey, you didn't hear that from me, it came from the other standby member.
Anyway, our bumpy landing was made around 1900 hours. Had a heck of a time finding a motel, turned around a couple of times. I don't see that well at night and don't like to drive after dark. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. The photographic member of our expedition took more pics than I can count, I'm sure he will post some later. I'm pretty bushed and hitting the sack. We'll get an earlier takeoff tomorrow and should arrive Sam's Town around 3-4pm. And I will be so glad, my butt hurts after 23 hours in that F-150. J |

i got stuck working late tonite,but we were able to fix the plane ...but a few odds and ends to finish on my stuff ,then maybe lend a hand to nut to get the beast done deassembled and packed ...should be fun
