Hello, i am going to buy a traxxas summit and was just wondering which lipo batteries i could put in it. First, does the c rating and second, how many cells (lipo) can i put in there?

My friend was also wondering the same for his team associated B4.1, as he was getting tired of his little NIMH battery. He wants to know the answers to the same questions i had.

2 cells in the B4.1 max...any hard case pack should fit.Stay away from maxamps and their ridiculous claims and high prices

Get 30c-40c packs if you can, hobbypartz.com sells gensace hardcase packs for really reasonable pricing, and amainhobbies.com has their house brand of lipos for a good price too.

The higher the C rating the more current they can deliver, but also less voltage sag over the length of the run.

Summit can handle up to 2 x 8.4v NIMH batteries or 2 x 2s 7.4v LIPO batteries.

C rating stands for Constant. More C means a larger constant burst of power off the trigger. Hope that helps.

Not too sure on that one, but I'd stay around 40c.

it can handle what the stock motor can draw from the batteries, you only need 30-40C constant.
Volts give speed,
mah gives run time.
C rating gives safe discharge rate from the battery but works with mah to work out.(C rating you can't go too high, but you can go too low)

The formula is: (C x mAh) / 1000 = MaxAmps

Not really... but you will have more consistent power over the length of the run.

If your vehicle draws a max of 60a constant and you're running a 20c 5000mah pack, that's a 100a it can deliver. Moving to a higher C pack won't effect anything on a fresh pack because the lower C pack was well within the power requirements of the vehicle.

I only suggested going with 30c-40c packs because they're easy to find, and pretty cheap too.

That said, if your motor wants more amps than the pack can deliver happily, the pack won't just give the amps its rated for, it'll try to give the motor everything it wants, usually resulting in a damaged/puffed pack.

Ok i think ill just stick to 30-40c, but i just got my summit today, and the manual said to not put a lipo in the esc it has...?

They mean that esc is the one that has no internal low voltage cutoff for lipos. Just add your own external one, and your good bud.

It says on the esc that it has low voltage detection, though. Maybe i read the manual wrong or was looking at a different esc

There are two different ESC's that were used in the Summit. The older one doesn't have the LVC built in, but the newer one does.
