Finally some progress again.... Jack at edfhobbies.com really came through for me on the warranty claim with some excellent customer service. I just received the replacement motor and fan that he mounted and balanced for me. I also got some new milar for the thrust tubes and a pair of heat-sinks for the motors. I will try and get some heat transfer paste from work to apply to the heat-sinks and a couple drops of high temp gasket sealer to hold them on.

This is the wemo fan, 2950kv motor, heat-sink, CC Ice Lite 100A, and CC capacitors pack as it will be inserted into the thrust tube. I may add a small carbon rod to the assembly just to hold everything firm and straight.

I have added strain relief coils to my gear as advised before. I had to order the K&S mighty bender and coiler tool.

That's a lot of hard work to bend the coils. I'd just order this and be done with it:

@Nerv... I've looked at those and I've already got a similar set. The problem is with the length of them and how well they perform for takeoff and landing on grass fields.
For the maiden and the initial flights I have decided to use a lowered ride height to minimize the stress on the struts and I have fitted oversized foam wheels to accomodate the grass field.
Eventually, I would like to swap the paino wire struts and foam wheels for some nice suspension struts and rubber treads like the ones you've suggested. One day I will find a flying club that has a nice paved runway that would facilitate the use of gear doors and pretty struts.

I had a set of those, they will not support anything other than a foam jet. The wire method is the way to go and you can use styrene tubing to make them look like struts and you will have the best of both worlds,

Hey guys I really want to do something about the elevator rods twisting problem. I have already epoxied the L-bends so I dont think I can remove them easily now. Do you think its possible to heat treat the protruding ends to harden the steel? Any ideas?

Nothing is going to really work other than cutting them out and upgrading them. I wish there was an easier way but that's the only real solution.

Thanks Bri, I was afraid that was going to be the answer. Maybe I will look into crafting an entirely new pair of elevators but in the meantime I think I will just try to fly it as is. If the flutter is really that bad I will be utterly disappointed but I guess I don't need to fly it so aggressively.
Aside from that, I began cutting out the slot for the nose gear and really started fitting the retract in. I managed to get the ride height figured out and I suppose I could have gone a lot lower. The guy who has the video posted on the HK site has really short struts and looks like the plane slides along the grass when he lands. Mine are not that short. The existing nose well that was cut into the wood frame indicates a really short strut should have been used here but then I would have been left with poor AoA. Because of the slope of the nose the wheel also protrudes out of the fuse here and even with tiny wheels I don't think I could get the gear doors to cover them up. I was really looking into your pics you shared earlier that kinda reveals your retracts and gear doors. You must have really modded the area to get your strut entirely into the well. I am using 15-25 eflite retracts and I am having to cut away the wood formers to make room for the steering arm. I will also need to fab a mount bracket for the steering servo because my wheel sits right into the existing slot. I will post some pics of it when I have more to show.

I managed to get an opportunity to rewire and resolder my motors and esc's since I have remounted them to the fans. I shortened the leads and soldered them together and re-done the heat shrink. I had also added the heatsinks. I will be putting on the transfer paste just after the bench test.

So it seems I was putting out some good power.

Volts sagged to 23.5V on a battery that was only had about 30% capacity left. (I still have another cap pack to add)
819 watts @ 37.5 amps.
81995 peak rpm, whats the wemo rated for?

As far as the nose gear mounts, I made a whole new one from scratch, it also is my battery tray. Real tight fit up there but it works.

Anyone know what the real rpm capabilities of the Wemo fans are? I know 6s pushes them to their limits but I would like to set my throttle curve to not exceed the rpms and blow my fans out. I can see with the castle data logging I am at 80000 rpm range @ 35 amps.

Im going to make a new mount too. I need to get the retract base much lower into the fuse.
