I tried using Parma Faskolor "Fastint" in my airbrush on the clear lexan canopy. I'm not liking how the tint has come out cloudy and opaque. Not really the kind of tint I was looking for. But the fiberglass/ply canopy base came out really well.

The Hobbywing 100A platinums arrived today. They are smaller and lighter than the Castles I had tried to use earlier. I want to place the controllers in a central location in the jet rather than in the exit ducts like before.
This idea would allow for better weight balancing by shifting it furhur forward. I have to add 10" of wire to the motor leads and about 8" for the battery leads.
I really would like to do away with the capacitors this time and I hope the extended motor leads will not cause and problems.
I will begin another round of bench testing soon.

The plan is to mount these fibreglass panels with the controllers installed just in front of the main gear. The cooling fins are just slightly exposed past the body panel. I will be able to remove and re-wire if the need ever comes.

Haha lol! No, I am saving the sparklers for a new special razzle dazzle project. I told Santa I wanted a composite A-10.

I had just recently assembled one of the wemo fan units with an Arc. I ran it up on a 3s, 4s and a 5s pack and I am impressed on how smooth and quiet it runs. It guess this is what it was meant to be like, too bad I didn't know better before.
I am going to do some more soldering tonight and get the other one together, now that I know I got a winning combination.

Bench testing has been going well. Everything is running smooth and cool.
I was cutting up the fg panels and started mocking up how I was going to position everything. Feeding the motor leads through to the fan area went easy.

I cut out the panel and tacked in some thin strips of fg with a little bit ca. The new panel will rest on this and allow for something to glue it to.

Once the grey paint drys then I can bolt down the controller and the gear and glue in the new panel. I wonder how other people do body work on their composites models. This was the best thing I could think of that could also provide future versitility if I ever needed to change something.

What was I suppose to do? I'm past the point of no return so I will finish this jet. I will have to look at it this way; Being my first composite arf I got all the problems and hang ups over with right away so things must get easier now? I got screwed on a bad deal on some counterfeit motors and I didn't know any better to see otherwise. I had learned a lot in the process and I got one heck of an edf education out of the whole mess. At least now I know the differences between good and bad motors, dealers, fans etc...
The bottom line is that I enjoy building and tinkering almost more than I do flying. I enjoy the anticipation of incoming shipments almost more than building the kits when they arrive. I enjoy hitting the "buy now" button and getting the rush from blowing mad money almost more than waiting on the shipment to come. But I hate taking a hit in the pocket book from some bunk products or rookie mistakes but I hate guys who can't be held accountable for their actions even more.
I am close now, I will have this bird done very soon and I will start another project right away. If your field is smooth enough perhaps I should come by and have a look? I have fitted the Raptor with big foam wheels, specifically for the grass runway.

A little bit of trimming around the struts and some filler with touch up paint around the seams and this will look pretty good.

Nice job! I like how you integrated the ESC's, if they were grey you wouldn't even notice them.

Thanks!! The blue controllers was kind of intentional because they match all the rest of the machined parts. The servo arms, heatsinks, and controllers...etc. Doesn't help the scale look much but it certainly looks good custom.

I have now mounted the fans with 90% FSA thrust tubes. I really would like to know what the thrust is going to be now.

I set the landing gear all back together again with a nose high AOA. I reduced the main struts length a bit so overall the jet sits lower to the ground with an aggresive stance for the grass runway.

I also really wanted to know my new AUW weight since I had changed the layout and moved some components forward.

Without any lipo packs I have a total weight of 6 lbs.

with 4s 3200's - 7.48 lbs
with 5s 3500's - 7.98 lbs

This is great news!!! I accomplished my goal of coming in under 8 lbs fully loaded. I had shed 3/4 lb from my last setup back in August. I still have yet to complete my alternate lightweight canopy (minus cockpit) that will allow me to use smaller packs and position them further into the nose for furthur weight reduction.

I also set her down on the CG machine and to my surprise the 5s packs balanced the Raptor perfectly at 9cm from LE. It seems I can have my cake and eat it too. I can fit both these 3500 5s packs between the ducts and have it balance perfect. It payed off to move the controllers and ditch the capacitor packs and heavy wiring.
I will not have to use the alternate canopy just so I can still have healthy flight times and stay under weight.

So 28-59-1 motors on 2 x 5s 3500 30C packs... Controllers at a settled wot will draw 50amps. So I should get 5 min flight times.

I am ready to perform some taxi tests and see if I can get the steering and gyro working right.

Im going to be down there on the 184th side within the hour. I got 7 packs to discharge today so we will be flying for a while. We usually hike in ways to get away from the power lines. I drive a black dodge dakota.
