I just cut power to one rx at a time...was that wrong?
Ill try it again and just let the relay be on with the helix, that works.

hi Bjoern,

if the relais switches to the audio signalcoming from the rx with the better reception then your soldering was o.k.
if the relais tears out - you´re welcome to my hobby-room and i´ll change the relais for you

it´s not good to mix 2 signals directly ... like an y-cable. doing so may destroy the output amplifier and you´ll get more noise than usable signal.

It also work right too, relay turns on when spw antenna is selected...

Well id didnt go as planned. The relay sounded like a machinegun sometimes because the diversity changed rx so much.

Hi Bjoern,
this happens when both receivers have nearly the same rssi.
somewhere in the middle of the diversity pcb is a potentiometer,
turn it 45° counterclockwise to make the diversity less sensible.

Ehh, it is not there on the bevrc one, i know there is on the rangevideo one tho...

I'm not very familiar with the Tiny uC's used on these boards. I believe the I/Os are rated at 40mA? With that and inductance of the coil in mind, is it OK to wire a relay coil directly to the I/O?

I ask because my LM358 didn't put out enough current to switch a large 5V relay I had on hand. It did consistently latch a 3V/65ohm relay, but there was only 1.5V across the coil (Vcc = 5V). 358's are rated for continuous SC (~40mA). OTOH, driving the 5V coil with a fet seems like the better way to go. Any thoughts?

I currently have a 358 buffer on the PRG pin of my micro diversity. It drives a status LED, and I'm using the other half to drive the relay. As mentioned it works with a 3V relay, but I don't like running parts on the edge.

[edit: I attached a schematic of a speaker relay/LED mod I just brewed up. All I had on me was SMT nFETs, and an IRLM510, and that is waaaay overkill. Really you can use any nFET you want, but diode protected versions are better at switching coils. Even with my SMT FET I could put up to 2A of bells and whistles on there, yet my PRG pin never sees more than 2M2 (I didn't have 1M... doesn't matter). ]
