It's a really nice flyer, Yeap. But, like I said, if I were buying one today I would get the genuine Passer-X from R2 Hobbies.

OK. I just ordered 1 from Hobbyking. I have always dealt with HK and have faith in them. Hopefully I will get a lighter plane than you.

I think and hope you will like it. Since I forgot to weigh mine before I started building I don't really know if my airframe is a bit heavy or not. One can certainly save some weight with a lighter motor, smaller prop, and maybe drop down to decent 6 gram servos? I have a couple little ones that I would like to try when I get around to it. I'll probably hook them up when I pick up some smaller music wire for my pushrods. It's still a very good flier in any case but it would be better if I can shave off a couple ounces.

I hope so. It certainly looks good, It has a V tail, streamlined fiberglass body, build up wing with swept back and a fancy wing tip. What more can a guy ask for. Its a dream come true!!

A smaller battery would help, but I balanced withou issues with the "heavy" motor and 1300 3s. The motor is far more dense than the battery.

I picked up some .032" music wire today and it works nicely in the pre-installed pushrod tubes. I tried .047" and it was still pretty tight. My solder on threaded ends should arrive tomorrow. Then I can start on assembling the fuse and tail. I'm going to use a clevis on the servo so I can do micro adjustments later. There isn't enough room for a quick link type of adapter to be on the servo ends and I don't want that much weight on the tail end but need to be able to adjust one end or the other. I'm going to likely use a Z bend on the back, glue it up, install it and then solder up the other end with the threaded ends as the only means of adjustment.

Yep, a smaller battery would save some weight but it flies beautifully and doesn't seem "too heavy". Plus it balances right on the money with the Rx behind the servos where it's easy to get to. If I wanted to try ALES with it I could go with a smaller motor and battery then free up the pushrods (I just had a friend pick up some .032 wire today.) and try out my 7 gram servos. It would be easy to shave 50-75 grams off my "maiden weight" including the 13 grams of wires and connectors I finally got around to clearing out. I still just have a sneaking suspicion that mine is a little heavier than others out there. I just can't see any way to get it down to the weights some guys are reporting with their Passer-Xs because if I dropped motor size and went to a 850-1000mah battery I might end up needing to add nose weight anyway.

I'm not complaining, it flies better than I do, I love the zoom launches, and since I'm just flying against the clock I like having batteries that last longer than I do. It balances well with the 1600mah Zippy's or 1300mah Sky-Lipos and I can pretty much fly it until I get tired.

BTW. I went with the Z bend on the servo end and EZ connectors on the ruddervator horns. Especially with a heavy motor it can handle the weight, less than .25 grams as I recall, in back and I like being ably to make adjustments without disassembling the plane. Of course, with a computer radio, one rarely needs to adjust linkages after the initial setup.

Oops! I forgot to mention that I use the EZ connectors that screw on though I can't recall the brand this close to bed time. I've never quite trusted the little plastic keepers.

is there any dihedral in the wings?i'm looking more for warm liner speed and a flat wing works better.was looking at the deamon 2000 but it has dihedral.i know the speedy has a flat wing

Smart. I've been amazed that mfrs will sell you a $100-300 plane with those installed, just (apparently) so they can save $0.0000024 on cost. I mean, c'mon - really?!?

I personally think these kinda things says a lot about a company (mfr) - and their concern for supplying quality products for their clientele.

Yeah. I generally end up replacing at least half the hardware. I think that part of what goes on is that a plane manufacturer will need a part that only one supplier carries and then they get roped into using all their stuff even if it's not right for the job. I haven't used a press fit EZ connector since I had one pulled off by a loop of servo wire on the maiden of a student's trainer. No elevator! I was able to get the nose up a bit with the throttle. I broke the wings in half when it hit the soybeans but it was fixable and didn't harm the fuse at all.

Here are the ones I found. They hold on with a nut and use a grub screw for a low profile but they carry the same size with a regular screw too. They're only 1/5 the price of the Dubro's I don't like as well. Actually, Toysonics has quite a bit of good hardware both name brand and knockoffs.

This is probably bad to admit but I get my EZ connectors by havesting them from crashed 3D planes ;-) Thus they end up being VERY expensive to get! Oh, and the ones I use look just like those in your link. I have to buy some there and save hundreds!

If you don't scavenge parts? You probably have too much money for your own good! I'm not even above digging through the trash cans at the field and buying old wrecks at swap meets for hardware. I missed the deal of the century though.

Some guy no one had ever seen showed up at the field with a Graupner glider (I can't recall the name) and went off away from the crowd. Before anyone had a chance to even approach him he gave it a mighty heave, stalled, and broke the fuse behind the wing. He tossed the whole thing in the trash can and drove away, never to return. One of my buddies got a fantastic glider for the price of a little glass tape and epoxy and the Airtronics radio went into a series of club trainers.
