I managed to get hold a PROTOTYPE of a new TriCoptor a flying buddy is developing. I have his permission to post some pics, looking to share some feedback and to see if there is a market for it. I will be doing a ‘slow’ build on this……

This is an original design, certainly no copying of anything I have seen so far. The design intent of this Trike is not leveled at AP or FPV, it came about because the current multi-coptor designs are very much based on DIY plates n boom, perhaps very functional, but by no means pretty… (unless screw heads, flat plates and square/round booms is your cup of tea.)

This Trike is aimed for those of us who care about good looking machines and is purely targeted for FUN FLY.

Other variants may may be evolved from it, including quad, Y6 etc. However, much of the development and whether it will be developed will be based on initial feedback.

The prototype I have is made of fiberglass, with a carbon canopy. It is fully painted so it is a little on the heavy side. A full carbon version is currently in work and should be significantly lighter.

Basic data:
- FUN FLY Full Fuselage Y3 TriCoptor
- Approx. 550mm motor to motor.
- Battery – TBD. But will test with 3s 2200mah
- Material – Fully painted fiberglass fuselage, Lite ply inner frame for mounting equipment, Carbon canopy. (Full carbon version in work.)
- CNC alloy rear motor yaw mount with rear servo mounting.
- Weight (with CNC rear motor mount and 9g servo) 420g
- Motor mounts for 2212 size motors (with minor tweaking 2216 or 2814 motors can be fitted)
- Hollow wings (boom arms) for threading motor to ESC wiring.
- Plenty of cabin space to fully enclose all electronics and batteries.
- Removable canopy for accessing electronics and changing batteries.
- Fully enclosed front motor cowls, with cooling holes.
- Integrated landing gear pods/fuselage
- Four pre-molded slots for 5050 LED light strip mounting.

That looks Great! Motor cowls look a little bulky, a wheel fairing type would be a little racier!
also needs a rear cowl that bolts to the face of the motor mount so it rotates with the rear motor.

On the FC, this variant is specially drilled for the FC that I will be using. When it goes to production it will be a more general hole pattern.

wow... now THAT'S cool!


edit: if i really have to find something that i would like to see to improve design is that i also agree with the need for a rear motor canopy that rotates with the motor.

very good looking. Thank God it's a tri. its hard enough making any multiroter look sleek and pretty. Tri's have the best chance.

I think it will not be too difficult to add a rear motor cover, by changing the rear motor mount plate to include a couple of screw holes to mount the cover. First thing is to get this Tri flying

Only the first prototype has flown and that was really only used to work out the C of G.

I agree with the above that the front motor cowls should look sleeker/streamline. Also the fuselage just stopping flat at the back is kinda weird. It just needs somthing to finish off the tail

Other than that, looks great! It should have modular parts so parts can be replaced too.

The designer sent me some photos taken in the studio. These show the lines of the Tri much better!
