Flyzone 182 repaint w/company colors

My employer has a fleet of 182/172's. The "company colors" are blue/yellow, but none of our 182's wear those and are instead painted in the factory Cessna schemes.

I have a Flyzone 182 that's been used a fair amount with some scale/realistic detailing accomplished. What I'm going to do with this plane will be to re-finish w/blue and yellow colors. My plan is to have the plane repainted in yellow and for the blue stripes I plan on using calle-graphics w/a vanity N number.

While no two of our planes are painted exactly alike, here are some pics of what I plan on replicating. (notice the Champ)

Over the course of this weekend, I've gotten some pieces painted with the complete new plane expected to be delivered on Tuesday. I've got the wheelpants, main landing gear strut, prop-spinner, and the forward cap for the wing-pins. For paint I've been using Rustoleum gloss yellow. I plan on using testors for the blue strip on the vertical stab and wingtips.

A common gripe with this plane are the landing gear, in particular the nose assembly. I've replaced the main tire/wheels with Hangar 9 1 3/4". No modification needed. Simply remove/replace!

Now, if I could find a nose tire that I could replace that easily. I plan on moving rather quickly and updating this as progress is made.

Got a lil more done this morning.

I've gotten the wing and horizontal stab painted on both sides. I also painted both of the wing struts, but something happened to one (I lost it). I also painted the "bucket" where the landing/taxi lights are with flat black.

Everything thus far is extra parts that I've had. Tomorrow the new 182 should be delivered that will make up the bulk of this project. The dupicate parts that I already painted will then come from the new plane and will be future spares.

Also tomorrow I will take some pictures for Callie-Graphics to give them a plane that I want them to dupicate the stripes on.

MDS,

I like what you are doing that will be a good looking plane. Did you use a base coat over the foam before spraying with the Rustoleum?

I have been considering doing a rebuilt Sensei in a bright paint scheme.

Thank you!

For painting, I've rubbed a verrrry light coat of laquer thinner on the surfaces and then merely painted over 'em. I've got another 182 that I had painted the wing-tips only with rustoleum and it's proven itself to be very durable over time and leaves a very glossy brght smooth finish. Another trick is to wait until the yellow is good and dry before using tape to paint the blue portions. On this model only the wingtips and there will be a blue strip up the vertical stab on the leading edge which will be brushed on.

Yesterday, received the plane but have yet to begin painting the fueslage. Although that will of course be the most time consuming, it's the last part to paint short of a lil bit of blue painting.

Here are a few pictures of the plane that I've asked Callie to duplicate and I was back-and-forth with the N-number and in the end decided to use this one even though it's obviously a172 vs 182.

The blue along the leading edge here will be painted on, but the logo will come from Callie.

Now to make this yellow...

And here's a pic of my current 182. Notice that I removed the wheelpants and fabricated a new front yoke. The nose gear is a weak link in these planes backed up by much discussion in the threads here. I upsized the tires a 1/4" but used "low bounce" rubber tires. The red on the vertical stab will be very similar (but blue of course) and the the red wingtps from the post above can be easily seen too.

Taped and painted the fuselage last night. And that's a wrap for the yellow painting.

Next step; give the paint some time to cure and then assembly.

A lil more work done this evening.

First, I had replaced the not-so-good front tire/wheel with a Dupro unit. This one's treaded and will give a much softer landing than the factory. I used several washers to center it within the yoke. Even if I didn't use this tire/wheel, I would have still used the washers to center factory one within the yoke. This prevents it from rubbing on the top of the yoke.

Next, I used my Dremel to cut out the exhaust pipe openings in the cowl flaps after outlining with a sharpie marker. Not pictured, but I used some styrene tubing to fabricate exhausts and will be painting and installing them tomorrow.

More to follow tomorrow...

A lil more progress.

Wingtips are painted along with the blue on the vertical stab/rudder. Still waiting on my prop (using a three blade) The stripes should be here early next week and then actual assembly can take place.

MAJOR PROGRESS!!

Today the stripes arrived from callie-graphics. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. The color is spot on and she got it perfect!

What's left now is to assemble the plane, do a few more minor details and on Saturday I'm going to get a prop as I had to use the one that this plane came with for my other 182.

The model is assembled, electronics tested, and what's needed now is merely a prop as I had to use the one that came with this plane for my other 182. There's still a few very minor details yet to do and the next 10 days are pretty much shot as far as being able to spend much/if any time on this project.

Looks mighty fine. Are you gonna add the Daybrook logo on the v-stab, like the full-sized bird?

Finally gotten the prop, gave it the white stripes on the blades....still yet to finish a few verrry minor details. I mentioned earlier that I was going to use a three-blade and fully intended to. However, finding a suitable spinner was proving to be rather elusive. Oh yes, it's gonna fly, once.

Due to Isaac, here is a picture of it's big brother together on the ramp:
