Anybody here using stabilization such as the FY30? How did it perform?

Yes. And I prefer the Guardian, because it's got adjustable gain during flight and via pots, and consumes a lot less mah - the FY30A is spec'd as requiring min 3A from the BEC. And the FY30A only allows mode selection from the xmit, not gain.

As to differences in their algorithms, if any - I'm not expert enough to comment on that.

But it did work. 2 modes, same as Guardian.

Blueprint...

I'm using an EagleTree Guardian really smooths the plane out and is great for heading hold.

Rudder only flat turns are a blast!

I am using the Guardian too, but have only logged one flight before the snow hit.

I use the FY30 and it works great. I haven't noticed that it draws any significant current. My complete flight system including FPV gear draws less than 0.4A when motor is at idle, which is about the same than without the FY30.
Flights in windy conditions are much smoother, and I also use it for takeoff and landing. Makes you a bit of a lazy pilot though...
You can adjust the gains on the FY30.

Has anyone used the ArdupilotMega yet? I see a lot of eagletree users. I've found that the APM is cheaper, unless I'm mistaken.

I have seen a couple on here using it..
I personally am using Ruby and have some fantastic support.. Hopefully soon I will be able to drop the ImmersionRC OSD and use the Ruby solution when it becomes available.
Now you can purchase the Orange tx from Hobby King and use the satellite receivers from Orange which plug directly to Ruby Bind if you only require around 1500 metres range. or you can use a long range system. Or S_Bus reciever.

I have aileron gain set at about 90% from center (almost full gain), and the elevator and rudder about 60% from center.
Keep in mind that center position is zero gain. From there, clockwise or counter clockwise gives you gain/corrections in different directions (depending on your setup you will have to choose which direction is the correct one for your plane).

I'm still playing with settings though so those numbers are not final.

After shopping around for my first autopilot.... I just placed my order for a APM 2.5 yesterday.
At 230.00 for the autopilot and fully configurable OSD I couldn't find a better bargain.
The guardian is great for stability... but want the peace of mind of RTL.

I too decided on APM after shopping around. I even have an APM 1 that I haven't used and it's been on my shelf for a year! I prefer the APM becasue all the hardware is in one place. I'll post a pic of my penguin setup soon. It made the whole thing really clean inside. I almost feel guilty that I haven't used up the space.
Also, RCTimer has the APM hardware for about $90! Quite a difference.
