There are two forums used for the penguin. This one is more of a review/building forum right? Now that my penguin is built, should I only need posting flight data and other related information on the other forum and not this one? I was just trying to get everyone's thoughts on which forum to post what.

I have purchased a lot of packing tape from Ace hardware stores as well. They have lots of good tape to use. I really like their vinyl tape as it conforms better to curves but I opted to just use the packing tape on this plane but it does not look very good. Their vinyl tape comes in different colors and lasts for years and never changes color. I use their tape for a lot of my foam airplanes.
If you can't find any tape and really want some, private message me and I will send some to you. |

Question.
I am still in the process of building my Finwing.
And I noticed that my GPS is short. (Any one else run into this?) That is if I want to place it where it is made for it. I have been looking for a 4 wire extension for it. And have unable to find one. I contacted HURC and asked if they had one. Response was Didn't. If you have run into this, What have you done? If you know where to find a 4 pin extension, Please pass on that info. Thanks Jim |

The first pic, (the one I was looking at I guess). Shows the GPS on the shelf. The 2nd pic show the VTX. I am new to this but I would guess if you put the Vtx there, you wouldn't want the GPS close by. Please correct me if I am wrong. By the way, after reading the thread and looking at the plane. I have added a 2nd screw on the front of the vert fin. About 1 ½ inches back from the front of it. If any interest, I will post a pic. |

Not the best angle for showing my GPS but it is all I have on my cellphone. My ET GPS barely makes it but does fit on the mount. My ELogger is a ways back. I made two extensions so my battery and ESC could reach ok. The plane that I flew FPV with before this one was called the EPP FPV. I had everything mounted in one location basically. The camera, video transmitter, and GPS were all within a three or 4 inch distance from each other. I didn't have any issues. The only thing I normally did was power up my Eagletree system before the VTX. This helped get satellite lock faster. Once powers up for about 1-2 minutes, I would then power up my video transmitter. I would then notice five or more satellites were already detected. Within another minute I had probably eight easy. I fly a lot of quadcopters as well. You are really limited on space as you can imagine. The video transmitter and GPS antennas are in close proximity. Not an ideal situation but is still doable. I think now that I have my GPS antenna a great distance from my video transmitter, I will be able to power everything up at once and don't think I will have any issues first detecting satellite initialization. Long ago, I was going to put my GPS antenna out on the wing of my other airplane. I can't remember the source but I did find places on the Internet were you could purchase different size plugs. I purchased some and built custom connectors so I could plug in four or six signal wires at one time in my own order into my receiver. I have heard of others extending their GPS antenna cable length as well. To keep it the standard length, you are going to have to keep your Eagletree system further back than you may want to. My GPS antenna is velcroed to the fuselage. When I need to get at the ET OSD and ELogger, I pull the GPS antenna off the fuselage to free up that extra cable length and then I am able to pull the devices forward for easier access. Hope this helps. |
