Hi all.
Last week I received my birthday present! My wonderful wife convinced the rest of my family to chip in and get me a LEGEND MODEL BOATS "California Cracker Box".

I know Rich posted the build of the prototype here

and his skill is far above mine but everyone enjoys a build thread so I thought I'd post up pics of my progress.

The frame is so well designed and cut that it goes together in no time.
This is what I was able to achieve in just one evening after the kids had gone to bed.

You'll be in the water by next weekend at that rate.

Can I ask what glue you use and what sort of running gear you intend to use?
I 'll be watching this one as I'm more comfortable with sheet skinning than the double planking on my last build.

You will be surprised how well the build goes.Love mine ,it came out looking pretty good for my first real boat build.Keep us updated with pictures and progress.

I did it with my T-bolt, the 427 sit's on top of the motor and stay's in the boat. I havent had any problems yet

Believe it or not the engine I used in my cracker box does double duty since it was first built for my 1/6th scale model of the Jersey Speed Skiff. This was a Revel chevy street rod motor that I made to fit over the MACK Marine Motor #7020, and then used in the cracker box over the MACK/ PROBOAT brushless motor system.

Her are some pictures to see the same Chevy motor in both boats.

I love the look of that chevy Rich. How did you make the water cooled manifolds?

The 11th guest- I carved the parts out of expanded vinyl trim from the cut offs at my local Home Depot. The stuff ,trims, cuts and sands very nicely and can be glued with any of the CA glues.

Do you mean the floor covering stuff? I’ll have to have a look next time I’m there.

I had some time last night, some sanding and the last bottom panels on, it’s starting to look like a boat!

I would say that you should always avoid of putty wherever is possible.
Just make a piece of timber and glue it on place..
The engine from Revell is cool..

The 11th guest- The stuff I used was in the moldings isle and is used as exterior molding on a house.

I would use a sliver of balsa glued in. your are going to be mahogany planking over it any way.

Thanks guys, I'm glad both of you are watching, Szmyk I love reading your build of "Swallow" she is just amazing and Frankg who better to ask for help than the bloke that designed the kit!! Maybe you two should put your heads together... I'd love to see a "Swallow" kit available to buy

The bottom and sides are all done and sanded, and I have assembled and stained the supplied stand, a few coats of varnish to go.

Read the thread, if i remember right Szmyk do ofer the drawings for the Swallov.
