Just pulled the trigger on a Syma S033G

OK, Ive had alot of fun for the last year+ flying my S107g around the house and occasionally outside, but I wanted something bigger. Ive studied up on the mods and saw where someone glued 107 main blades to the oem tail rotor for better forward flight, question, I have some spare main blades from a 6020 do you think that would work? Any other advice, should be here July 3rd.

I am working on both a Syma S031 and an S033 at the moment (they are not mine).

Both were crashed. These big 3ch's look awesome in the air but do not have the power nor control to fly in any kind of wind at all. Both owners were flying very high, lost control in a light breeze that they encountered up there, and were unable to maintain control.

On the S033, both of the lower rotor (outer shaft) screws broke off. On the S031 the motor shaft bent and the pinion slipped on the shaft. There is also general crash damage. I expect that both will be repairable.

In summary - ok for someone that wants a big heli and understands their limitations. Parts are easily found but I find them a PITA to work on. IME bigger is not better when it comes to 3ch and coaxial helis in general. Of course YMMV. The guys on the QS8005/8006 threads are having lots of fun with theirs.

Keep flying!

regards . . . g

Ive heard that it could use more power, can the newer 7.4v versions electronics withstand 11.1v? Maybe some more powerful motors, Ive got a pair of Speed 400's on the work bench right now. :-)

I wonder why a heli like the DH9053 Volitation is more popular here with a multi page thread, and the heli I chose has practically nothing? Surprising because the S033 is basically an enlarged s107, which is one of the most successful 3 ch. helis ever. Is there something better about the volitation that makes it more popular?

I'm guessing you haven't read much of that DH9053 Volitation thread. There's little substance. This should make you feel better:

Thanks for the link Balr, ill read it thoroughly. Well....ITS HERE !! It is really big. So far ive moved the battery forward, routed the antenna along the tail boom, leaving 3+ in. dangling, and created a new tail rotor using main blades from a DOA 6020. Heres a pic, the tape is temp.

You will get the best reception by allowing the antenna to just hang down, with a washer or nut tied to it to keep it out of the way. Of course, this isn't always practical. Anyway, enjoy your heli. You seem to have a pretty fair idea of what it's shortcomings are already.

Balr, found out the hard way about the best way to route the antenna, heli goes crazy, pilot gets blade strike to the hand...OUCH ! Rerouted the ant., now works good. Even with mods it was still tail heavy, so I did the same thing I did with my 107, removed the tail support rods and horizonal tail wing. This thing is FUN. Forward flight is as fast as I want to go. My big back yard got real small, real fast:-) Things to do yet include finding a better battery and charger and getting a longer ant for the Tx. The neighbors stopped what they were doing and watched the maiden.

You must have one hell of a backyard! If I fly anything more than about a foot long, I run out of space real fast.
